Hi all, I quilified for the $27L $600kgtd SCOOP 2 day event on Sunday. What strategy should I implement in this tournament, the starting stack is 10k with I think 20 minute blinds, and day one ends when level 41 is reached. Should I play super tight or just your typical ABC poker ?

Any help will come handy :)

It doesnt matter how you are going to play it. I just wish you good luck and this is actually enough. Maybe abit more safe play can help you too.

I would recommend you play the same style of poker that got you the seat. Good luck!

This will sound really generic and obvious; but your goal of any day 1 should be to make it to day 2 with a relevant stack. doesn't mean you need to be a chip leader or even average...basically you need to have enough chips to have fold equity. if you can have a median stack going in to day2 that is pretty good.

You can't win these multiday tourneys in 1 day, so don't focus on chipping up too fast. If it happens, great. But ask yourself how many day1 chip leaders have won the main event? many of them don't even cash... don't be an early bird. try to survive and fly under the radar with an average stack.

Also, this is really obvious to say but...don't worry about how big the field is or how far it is to the money...just worry about your 1 table. Tournaments are won 1 table at a time. you don't have to knock out all those other thousands of people, you just have to be profitable are YOUR table. Just play solid, shoot for an average stack. It sounds deepstacked enough that even if you end up with a half an average stack you'll still have a playable stack.

tournament life is everything in multi-day tourneys.

also, at the end of the day a little "mini bubble" occurs. there will be some players who are short who don't want to have to come back a second day and will take big risks trying to "double up or go home" but many more players will nit up nearing the end of a day. Exploit this at your will, as your stack size and table position allows.

depends on your approach, for instance, if you want to be itm, then you should play only in position strong hands, and maybe risking a little more if your stack is big enough, but then if your stack is too short and is not sure you are going to be itm, then be more aggresive when you feel you have a good chance to double up by pushing

Thank you for the great post that you did, I'll do what you've written, I'll exploit players when I can and also play slowly and just make sure I can get into day two, I know it's going to be a loong tournament and I am going to sleep for a few hours before the tournament starts so I know I have enough energy for it. I'm actually quite nervous as this is my first 2 day tournament, though played many $27 tournaments. My first main goal is to survive the first day, I'll also post up some hands on this post so that people can see how I played :)

why focus on making day 2 ?
This is an online- MTT like every other, but they only make it a 2 day event because it would take to many hrs to end it in 1 session.
The money bubble will burst on day 1 and apart from being it a nice result to run deep there's nothing special about making it to day 2.

Except 2 things....the pause between the end of 1 day and the beginning of day 2 means you could do some study about the other players still in and gives you the chance to think over strategy.
Being it a $27 tournament it's probably not gonna give you to much information tho.

2nd as missjacky said, there might be a little survive day 1 bubble, but the main reason for that is mainly most people are tired after all those levels and want to continue the next day being fresh again.
This might tighten up some players.

The event stops on Day 1 at level 41, so depending on how many runner's the bubble may not have burst..so you need to bare that in mind. You are deep stacked and long blind level's so play TAG and pick your spots and don't worry if you fall behind there will be plenty of time to make up the difference.

I suspect this game will have much deeper stacks and a slower structure than you're used to. There are different views as to how and how much one should adapt. It's probably a good idea to look into this so you can decide what's likely to be the best fit for you and your style.

Also, another thing that should be obvious - don't schedule anything you can't easily cancel. To make day 2, you'll have to play over 13 hours on day 1, so be prepared for this possibility

I play alot of these live and online.
Let me first say get some rest and be on your game because it is going to be A long day.
If im assuming right day one is a qualifying day with unlimited reentries until after day one closes.
So your first goal is getting through day one with average or above chip stack before you even consider a payday.
These tournaments are long and exhausting but thats where the guarantee prize pool comes from.
My suggestion would be just abc poker.Try your best to play your a game and not make to many mistake obv.
Maintain an ave chip stack and just plug away 41 levels ,
I would certainly suggest taking notes on players styles habits reads etc, that way on day two you have some form of idea how others are playing.

Thank you for the reply I'll keep that in mind by taking notes, this tournament is a one time entry so you've only got one life in it, I've never played 13 hours worth of poker so yes it is going to test my limits which I am nervous of due to the fact I want to do well in it.

Thanks for the tips guys, the turnament has only 1 entry no re entries and yes this is way bier and slower tournament that I have played before I'll also make sue that i WILL AKE NOTES

Day 1 is 40 levels of 15 minutes, so 10 hrs of play.
Add 10 breaks of 5 minutes, so in total it will take about 11 hrs to finish day 1.
I've hardly ever seen (if ever) the bubble did not bust on day 1, but you'll find that out yourself.
Taking notes obv is a good idea, but you really have to write down at which level you are when you do so.
For example,if you meet a player in level 30 and you've been at the table with him/her in the early levels, the notes you made there are pretty useless (assuming the player adjusts to blind levels and stacksizes).
Than, if you make it into day 2 (hope you do), you have plenty of time to search other players at OPR or some site like that.
I might be wrong, but I don't believe there's a new seatdraw before day 2 starts (not sure about this), so you can at least search for the players at your table.

Why do we have to play it any differently because it's a two day event? Sure if people are playing differently on the day one bubble then adjust to that, but other than that I really don't see what difference it makes to strategy (apart from ensuring you don't have anything scheduled for the time).

Instead if I was in your position I'd be asking about what sort of adjustments I need to make for the deeper stacks and slower structure. This will have a far bigger impact than the tournament being a two day affair.

Thanks all for the support my friend is also doing the tournament, and we have put a $20 who last long side bet, the score is 3-3 for the side bet thing, so would really like to beat him at this ahaha

Also that is true also, how many hands should I play with my starting stack, should I also think about being aggressive when players will be trying to just get to day two ?
