i play around 4-6 micros at a time with the goal of building a bankroll big enough to transfer to tournaments. I am wondering if the higher amount of games per hour the turbo gives is worth the increased variance.

The turbo's generally have a lot more regs in so your edge is smaller and of course higher variance as you said. I would go with standard speed, especially if your shove/fold game is not solid.

To improve your game, you should play the non-turbo's.

To improve what part of his game? Both call for different disciplines.

this ^

I'd also add in the 27man SNG's.
Note that there's also a fair number of regs. in the regular speed 27's & 18's.
