I having many difficulties in deciding how to play these games. Most of these are smaller buy ins and the players are gamblerholics lol. I used to try to find good spots but most of the time I end up losing valuable chips early. Then I tried sitting and waiting for a hand and playing that hand to best of my ability but if a hand like AK or AQ goes wrong I'm in bad shape. I also went with the shove any early level with 99+ and that had mixed results. Someone please tell me how to beat these games when your only play is to win at showdown

just choose for yourself the style that you are most comfortable to play and have fun. at a distance and in the analysis of hands you will see the errors and maybe their success. and read some books. very helpful

Just play as tight as possible, observe opponents and choose your spots carefully... don't worry if you start to get blinded out - just wait for your spot and shoot!

if you play turbos the concept is completely different.
its less skill and more math, i.e percentages pushing all in becomes standard play and variance can really mess with your head.

in a nutshell 5 minute blind tournaments are a pure gamble unless you are a very solid aggressive player

stick to 10 minute blinds, be patient dont just jump into turbo games because they are more frequent,
be careful with your selections,

The best thing about these tourneys is that everyone has 1,500 chips to start with so you're not at a disadvantage. Be patient, pick your spots, pick up blinds and try your best to stay ahead of the structure.

you have to adapt to the players in your table. If you see that you can't bluff them, because they pay with anything, then don't bluff and wait for a good hand to come, they will surely pay you with nothing and take all the chips from them. What I do works well for me, I play as if I were playing cash, and i play depending the stack I've got, and I do well, it helps me not to get into trouble, at least in the early stages.

At the beginning it happened much more times than now and just because now i choose more carefully my spots, limping in, recognizing betting patterns to make good calls and even better folds. So my advise is: play with position; limp in every time that is cheap (less than 2bb); only call when its cheap when you have some project (flush draw for example) and if its cheap call you opponent on river. The showdown will give you a lot of information.

depends also if its turbo or regular tourney.. If its regular with longer blinds structure, play very tight at beginning and wait for cards and good spots. If you are strong, play aggresive, No hippie checking on flop etc... :D If there are loose players and call stations dont bluff them ofcourse. And try to see as many flops as possible with cards like suited connectors, but as cheap as possible,so if you have some limpers before you :) You just have to know which spot is good and worth to try.

be tight and aggressive. When you have the hand show that you have it, when you don't then fold it.

With a 1500 starting stack, if you don't pick up chips early it never seems too long before you are short stacked (regardless of blind structure) and looking for a hand to shove with. poker stars freerolls all seem to be 1500 ?

I tend to play wicked tight until I get down to like 15-20 big blinds. After that I'll open up my range more

TAG is the best option early, people get knocked out quite quickly in these and you can loosen up later once the field is thinned.

yaa TAG playing style is the best play , dont go all in with AK,AQ,AJ unless u had top hit on flop or u get some draw , u can call all in or goes all in with AA,QQ,KK only
look for spots at table ,how they are playing ,
u can increase ur range of hands against Tight player but with LAG and paasive and maniac player u have to take down them with monster hand only ..
have patience and play ur style and the way u wanna play dont get tempted by other player who stack chipps recklesslyy by playing very aggresivelyy
u have to be patient in early stages of time as blinds level are low , u have to b agrresive once antes kicked in ...
I m saying this about 8min or 10 min blind level or more
for turbo and micro turbo just hit them hard on position
its an open warfield baby out there :) just kidding i m nt gud at turbo

You can't really bluff a lot in these games. Also you have to remember AQ, AK are still drawing hands, sometime 1 c-bet is okay, but if you miss and then your opponent plays back at you then you are probably beat most of the time. It's one ting to be TAG, but another to be a TAGfish

Of my advice to you is, if you have a good hand-premium hand, go fishing as cheap as you can early. Try to stay away from pre flop allin's unless you have one of the big three.

I think best way to do it is to play very tight, try to see some cheap flops with small pairs, suited connector etc, cards that are not hard to post flop-play (if you flop-Go, if not-fold). Surely take notes on your opponents, especially their hand ranges.

At the first stage of the tournament you have to be a tight player, but better - "rock". You should not worry that you fold hand after hand - you take on your next steps. But to lose most of the chips at the beginning - a very serious loss. Therefore, the general advice is: Point Guard TT-AA + AKs. If you are in the first position, you can generally limit aces and kings.

I'd play like a sng, I think too you can double up early against the fish with any strong Ace, certainly be calling all ins with A 10 + against the bingo donks, their Q2 o might still win but I find there are a lot of good spots to stack up against these players early on in a lot of tourneys. If on the other hand you are at a tight table just exploit their tightness by stealing pots from them.

building a chip stack early doesnt mean anything in these tournaments wait for your spot and push for the most value possible. if your table isnt to aggressive use your position to steal and few blinds to keep you in the game till ur cards come around

I'm having difficulties with this type of starting stack too. I think they're played just in micro or small buy-in as you said. At least I don't remember I see 1500 starting in some decent buy-in tounament.
So, considering this I think you don't have to be necessarily really tight. There're a lot of bad players so I guess you can even wide your stackoff range a little bit. I don't think only waiting for the top hands to make chips is a very profitable strategy. Yea, you get paid more often than normally because of quality of opponents, but stacks are more shallow right from the beggining, so IMO the best you can do is to be reasonably active, maintaining a solid stack and wait for a easy chips with monster hands.
