Hi guys.

So I am learning poker right now. I am playing 2NL micros and I am very much in the beginner stages. I'm not sure which format would be the best way to learn.

I am thinking - to learn I have to get many hands in. Zoom probably is best way to do that. But then again I can muti table, so I am guessing one Zoom table is not that much different from 4 normal tables open at a time, right?

The most I can play is 6 tables at once right now. 4 I can play very comfortably and anything beyond that, while manageable, starts to push my focus and concentration; I feel I can not maintain it for long hours. While on one zoom table I can play for longer because my attention is not spread over multiple tables and so it's less of a mental exhaustion. Plus it seems to keep my attention going, while 4 tables and less starts to get boring cos action is too slow (so I switch to 5 or more but then I lose focus).

Another thing is that because Zoom is only one table (or maybe two at max for me, even though I never tried more than one at a time I probably could handle it) I can focus better on decisions (have more time, don't have to act so quick, less spread of attention) and get those good habits in to fix my leaks.

But then again, I feel zoom tables are kind of inconsistent. In a sense that players change all the time so you don't know their stats always, plus sometimes you don't have any fish at the table, so your profits could be lower. And I do want to build my bankroll as fast as possible. That being said, my main focus is not on bankroll right now but just on getting the practice in so I can improve my game.

Anyways, that's my thinking pattern. Not sure whether it makes sense, but really I don't know which is best for new players trying to improve. I thought maybe I ask you for some advice or some insights. What do you think?

Also, is Zoom any different from normal cash games? Like strategy vise? I am currently reading a book for absolute beginners and it focuses on full ring normal cash games. I have been using that strategy in Zoom games and I am wondering should I adjust it somehow? What are the differences (if there are any at all)?

Tell me please what room are we talking about? Stars ? If you play nl2, then normal tables are the easiest. Perhaps it sounds silly, but a strange coincidence, in the zoom - too many coolers. Of course, it’s crazy to say that the random number generator work differently, but these are my subjective observations :). When I play in zoom, always get a cooler : three against three, a flash against a flash, I played about 500,000 hands and nothing has changed.

I always load a lot of tables, usually it is 6 zoom tables. At first it seems tedious, but then there is a habit. After 6 tables zoom, normal tables seem so dull and you need to spend time in order to adapt to normal tables.

On the other hand, in a sense, you are lucky. You live in a time zone when more reactionary players are playing at the table and you can filter ordinary tables by choosing easy opponents. In this sense, more profitable to play normal tables.
I think that you can achieve your goal. Good luck. :)

Zoom is doom if you are learning poker. So are cash games.
I suggest you stick with tournaments and SNGs while you are gaining knowledge on how to play successfully.

Well, I think you can learn more in cash game than in zoom, but in zoom, face more rivals

So I am learning poker right now.

zoom tables are not the place to learn poker

they are too fast new table every min

at least when you play norn tables you get to sit back and actually see how players are playing and learn from them.

Try 6-s cash games! Although for me it was 6-s s&g that helped me at the beginning.

If you are learning poker than dont play zoom, this is to fast for beginers. Play cash games or tournaments with low buy in. And if you are really want to learn patience in and strategy in online poker than try to play some freeroll tournaments, its helpful for beginers.
Good luck at the tables.

learn whatever format you plan on specialising in and focus on it until you reach the level of unconscious competence.

If you are unsure about which format to play try them all out over a reasonable sample size until you get a feel for the game and find the format you wish to stick with.

At start you learn not just poker situations on board you learn to read opponents and it's impossible in zoom. So I prefer cash games for it. Zoom mode is for relax when you don't want to wait next hand. It's pretty but fundamental is cash.

I'd say regular cash games; but as a new player you need to understands that MTT, Sit N Gos, cash, are all different monsters, and different strategies can both work.

I'd say zoom because you are seeing way more hands/spots/etc. If you are trying to learn by playing a lot, zoom is the way to go..

I do not suggest zoom tables for a new player.

I would play 6 tables if I were you. Because 4 sounds too boring for you.

Maybe I'm too classic, but I think 4 or 6 tables at the time are really a lot for a beginner? Of course, there's an individual component to it, so if you feel comfortable with 4 tables go to town.. Just saying, from my opinion, I could never collect information about the style of other players while sitting at 4 or 6 tables. I once tried 2 tables, but I found myself just looking at my cards and deciding.. But that is not how I like to play, just based on my cards.. I want to take into consideration who raised, who called, who folded, how much was raised, from which position, which position am I.. With 4 tables à 9 players - 36 players to analyze simultaneously? Feel like my brain would start smoking, so props guy for you if you are able to do it in beginner stage already :)

My advice would be to play 1 table and start playing cash game and tournament, but with play money as a beginner. Need to learn how to walk before to run, that's my opinion..

Every tournament has some advantages.

Playing Zoom events you're able to observe and learn about many more situations for shorter period of time.

Playing in a big tournament you have the opportunity of learning some patterns or tells of the other players that they show occasionally.

So both things have some advantages, I think :)

When it comes to learning regular cash games are MUCH better than zoom.

#1 You get to play at a more normal pace, time to think
#2 You get to follow the action of hands and see them from start to finish
#3 You get to develop reads on your opponents which you can use later
#4 You learn patience of waiting for spots which is a big part of poker

Zoom is great for getting in tons of volume once you have a solid strategy, but it is a very bad place to start in my opinion as the pace is too fast and the lack of information is brutal.

Here's an old video I made on the subject when it first came out

And if you want to see some live play videos feel free to look around the rest of my channel!

I find zoom exhausting, and I'm always trying to playoff position since I don't have info about the players around me, changing constantly. I found that I'm supposed to play stronger hands since everybody gets more of them, but damn I get tons of bad beats here.
