as far as poker in the US is concerned I have no idea. What stakes do you play? Try posting some hands and start watching poker videos. Many poker coaching sites offer a 7 day free trial so you download the videos and watch them later. GL ;)

Gonna take lots of work and studying of the game. Don't be surprised if you're not a winning player in the first 6 months or only breaking even at the low stakes.

i wish you best of luck, try to study poker strategy, read this forum and talk with other players. I don´t know in what poker client did you normally play but pokerstars have a pokerschool online with nice promotions and a few courses that can make you be better on this lovely game. And be prepared to not win a lot on the first months because this is a really complex game :)

I think you would do well to find a non-poker way to cover the extra $300 a month. The pressure of having to make that money each month will make it much harder to play well. It's very important to be able to see the chips as simply the score in the game and not to be thinking of the cash value when making decisions on a hand. Even when you play very well you'll have losing streaks. Poker is never a steady, consistent stream of income like a regular job is. It is, of course, possible to make good money playing poker, but it will come fast sometimes and other times there will be extended periods of loss. It's important to have a big enough bank roll set aside to overcome the down swings that are inherent in the game.

If you live in the U.S. you need to file with DOJ for your money on FTP. (there's other threads on here with links).

OP, as far as wondering whether you'll be able to jump into the game & profit $300/mth. goes..... You'll need to put in the time playing/learning if you hope to be a winning player period (even in micros). How much effort you put into it will result in what you get out of it (like anything else in life).... along with bankroll management, etc. etc. It's a process. End result can be the oppurtunity to profit $'s, but going in without experience and expectations of profitting a certain sum each month isn't very realistic. (better goal would be to 'learn to get better'... then the money will take care of itself).

Some people make money right away. Others don't. I suppose it's a combination of aptitude / personality plus what and how much they learn immediately. But afaik, there's no good way of predicting how well or poorly you'll fare. My inclination is not to put much emphasis on the $300 per month target. Just play and work on your game. In the big picture, how much will it really matter when or even if you get there?

I don't know how to do the quote but imho the key to poker is Arjonius' last sentence. It's not how much money you make in a month that makes you a great player it's getting your money in good, getting sucked out on and not letting it affect your game. Big picture.

Lets say you do hit your target on a US facing site.
How the heck do you expect to get your cash?
Cashout times are in the months I believe.....

i'm just starting out playing online and here's how i'm approaching it. this is an example..say i deposit the min 20 USD. i'm starting out playing the one table SNG's 1-3 buy in. My goal is going to win five dollars so i'll play however many that gets me that total. so now my balance is 25. i'm going to either move up to the 5 buy in Sit n Go's if my game is pretty good or play in a tourney..1-5 buy in range so that way i'll be playing them hypotheticly free.
As far as going to an actual casino and making it happen..don't have high expectations unless you play in a tournament. cash table can be brutal and have pro calluders that take advantage of new players

If I was you, I would start out on the micro levels, and forget about the $300 a month. You may someday work your way up to that, but sense your new to hold'em, I wouldn't get in a hurry to make that 300 a month, it may end up costing you more.

GL with getting $300 a month, your going to need a lot of luck to achieve that and don't forget your also going to need skill.

I am no expert but reading on here has given me a lot to think about on how I play poker and my game has improved immensely. I used to play a lot of freerolls but just could never get ITM but since I joined here I have started to get some decent payouts. As you are new to the game I suggest you read the strategy's on here and other sites, there are a lot of good articles out there if you are willing to do the research. I hope you get your $300 a month and if you do share your success with us :)
