I've been told this quite a few times playing live poker. I've been playing poker for years, but just recently started to take it seriously. I try my best to stay out of marginal situations as my post flop play isn't top notch yet, and I'd like to grow my bankroll. I consistently do well, walking out of 1-3 NL games with 200+ profit. The people that say these types of things to me I notice are regulars that I always see reaching for their wallet..... They win big sometimes, but I usually see their stacks disappear before they leave the table. I don't play many hands. I evaluate everything before I play a hand. I'll even fold KQs if I'm 1 off the button, and there is a raise with some callers in front of me.... I am just now starting to slowly expand my opening range. I feel experience (the expensive lessons) are the best.
Are these people just fish? Am I a "poker bingo" player? I do not know anyone that plays poker seriously to get a feel for how I am doing. Is this something others run into as well? My gut tells me they are just fish, and are the ones actually playing the bingo, playing too many hands without thinking about anything just hoping to hit a flop, but then again I hear this pretty often......

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sounds like they're just trying to get in your head/make you doubt yourself. From the sounds of it, you're doing well. Just focus on playing your game and improving. Don't worry about what some random says. Keep up the hard work.

Improving is my goal. I'm not deluded into thinking I am a pro......yet. I am confident that I have talent in this game, but have room to grow tremendously. I have had some bad nights losing a few 100, but that's everyone, even the pros. What I feel my strength in that is that I can usually track that loss down to a couple bad plays, and see exactly what I did wrong, all in hindsight of course lol. I feel what sets the progressive players apart from the lucky win every now and then players is actually seeing and learning from your mistakes. Thank you for your words of encouragement!

Sounds like they know you only play premium hands but are still calling you and raising you with very loose holdings.
Sounds a little fishy to me if you know what I mean. :)
You are beating them now and after your post flop play gets stronger you will be crushing them.
Sounds like you are in the right place as long as after your post flop play is a-one you don't scare them away.
Keep it up.

Thank you. I don't ONLY play premium hands. Q9 and 8-10 are two of my fav hands actually! I've busted quite a few people with those hands, a lot of people can't even see those type of straights when they hit right. Especially around the regs, I have made some stone cold bluffs that were planned from the get go, I could have not even look at my cards, and still played the whole hand the same way, I made sure to flip them when I was successful. I figure it's a good investment in the future since I plan to play this room until I outgrow its limits. (it only has 1 2-5 table usually....) Im not looking for pats on the back here, Im looking for either "You're dumb, open up your range", or validation on what I thought on this from the start. So far, looks like its the latter.

Balanced opening range? Showing a profit at the tables regularly? Let them say whatever they want to as they walk away broke.

Their words don't bother me in the least bit. Im just asking if there is anything there to heed. It sounds like I am on the right track though. I am always open to suggestions from wiser, more experienced people.

If youre a winnable player compared to some, then just continue what youre doing.

Analyze those past situitions/ hands the moment they call you a bingo player and discuss with a friend. Look for weaknesses if its in your part or them.

Thats why here at CC, hands are posted with so many analysis. There, you can generalise whats the best move.

i think 78 or 89 suited are better cards than AK suited, just because you can make more hands with 78 89 than AK

I think Ive made more money on pocket pairs than any other hand, especially small pockets. I fold AK especially unsuited many times preflop depending on my position, and the betting. 9.5/10 times it was the right move too. AK is my least fav of the premium hands. I limp that hand most of the time for two reasons, I don't like it lol, and when you limp in and it hits well (rarely, for me at least) no one puts you on AK :)

Sounds like you have a good grip on the game and they don't.
You should be happy that they call you that. They might be tilting when they do, or deciding they should call you down more. Time to value-bet them busto. ;)

Online Poker---for entertainment only

This is my opinion after playing literally 100,000 hands online.

It has provided me an opportunity to see so many more hands versus playing live poker, however the odds/probabilities are so askew that it is hard to consistently profit.

I adhere to the Dan Harrington rule for online poker: play tournaments ONLY, fold early and play aggressive late, and look for others that are playing your style and avoid them at all costs.

I like your post, I want to advise you to enjoy yourself playing online but PLEASE keep your limits low when playing cash (or avoid entirely) and PLEASE venture to a local $1-$2 cash game and rape 'em!

Best wishes

If they are calling you a bingo player, it is probably because you are making some huge over bets or some allin pre-flop raises which is not good but is stopping them from seeing a flop with their 37 off and similar like they wanted to. I think if you improve your post-flop game like you intend, you will make more money and hear the "you are a bingo player" less, but I would not worry about it too much.

I believe you are playing "play money" and "freerolls". This phase is very complicated because many play and bet without thinking too loud or even all-in pre-flop with marginal cards. When you start playing micro limits playing these fish will still be there. After this phase and you have a comfortable bankroll. Begin to increase the values of the tournament, the level of opponents will be completely different, and will not have so many stupid moves as it in the micro limits. GL

bingo kills the beauty of this game . You did what to you invested everything and left you only happiness , that's not why I'm enjoying this , but just the opposite

I've been called racial slurs pertaining to races I don't belong to. The point is, idiots say all kinds of dumb things and there isn't any point to thinking about it. When people call me a bingo player in online poker chat I usually say something like "AHAHAHAH WEEEEEEEE!!!" Good luck at the tables and have fun!

most cash players these days play bingo and will call a massive range if some idiot min raises and gets 1 caller expect the whole table in, the problem is most of the players at the lower stakes havent read books and studied strategy...therefore all your hard earned learning is totally wasted and more often or not will cost you a stack or two...so i agree , a lot of folding and less calling of marginals, mite make you a rock... and lose you value! cos people wont call you but overall it is a winning strategy :)

Lower stakes and Freerolls produce play with a wide range of hands and no problems if they lose.

At higher stakes money play settles down but you sometimes come upon a very loose player - just note them and take advantage when you can.

Sounds like you got the situation figured out pretty well if you ask me.
Just keep working on your game, and you dont sound like a bingo player to me. They are just unhappy that your are making it hard for them to play lots of hands loosely.

Bingo? No. Extreme gambling? Sometimes.

Some pro's were talking about enjoying gambling.

Gambling in poker is only a part of poker.
