Won $5 in a freeroll, what to play next?

I recently won $5 in a pokerstars freeroll (2nd out of 3000 people haha). Does anybody have an effective strategy for building up a bankroll with just $5? Should I play cash games, MTTs, or Sit 'N Gos? If MTTs or Sit 'N Gos are the best, which ones are good on Pokerstars?

Before Black Friday I won $2 in some 'high roller' play chip tournament on Full Tilt, and was able to build it up to $20 in full ring NL 0.01/0.02 before busting completely. After that experience, I haven't played poker at all until 2 weeks ago.

You can play the $0.10 Sit and Gos 360 people.
If you prefer cash games, $5 bankroll for NL2 is too litle, you can play the Fix Limit games 0.02/0.04 to build it up.

0,10USD - 360 players are fast sit&go , and lots of all in preflop players, its realy more bingo then poker. I play scheduled tournament with buy in 0,27 and 0,55 dollars. They have 1500-2500 entries with 3000 starting chips, so you have time to play. its pretty profitable tournaments for me.You should try it.

Hmmm, I've never played fixed limit before. Is it harder to learn than no limit? I'll check it out and maybe practice in some play chip games or freerolls.

Are those the ones that say '$750 Gtd' and '1.5k Gtd'? Also, what is your opinion on tournaments like the $0.22/0.33 satellites to the Big $2.20/3.30?

Only MTTSNG 0.25$ 45p, because reg speed, many bad players and 20bi quite enough to start...

I would try with some freezout mutlitable tournament. You can try with 1 USD, 2 or even 3 USD buy in because 5 dollars is small money in poker world but on PokerStars you can hit big with some of these tournaments.
If you just start to play online poker, try to use your begginers luck.

Possibilities are plenty on PS. But I prefer cash games.

Well congrats on grinding through that field to get yourself that $5 to restart your poker career! Not too shabby if you have taken that much time away from the game. I would suggest to play the lowest stake MTT's available to you. I'm a U.S. player and don't even have PS downloaded to my recently purchased laptop. So not sure what game are offered, but I'm sure there are games that only cost you pennies to play. Since you won your money playing in a tournament, I'd suggest sticking to tournaments. But I'm sure there are some cheap sit n go's that could certainly be an option for you. Good luck on turning that $5 into $10, and then that $10 into a playable bankroll!

It depends what the $5 means to you.

If you want to practice proper bankroll management with it then stick to $0.02 hyper SNGs and freerolls until you have made $10. Then take a stab at $0.10 until $25, etc...

However, if your $5 bankroll doesn't mean that much to you and you want to run it up, then play $0.01/$0.02 and buy-in with $1. Even if you lose 3 buy-ins in a row you are still bankrolled for 100 $0.02 hypers!

Maybe the true answer for you is somewhere in-between but I prefer the extremes. :)

Its easier, cause your only options are minraise, call or fold :p
ofc you need to know about odds, pot odds but the games are very soft, the 6max games have plenty of action, dont try full ring fix limit cause its boring to death :D

With $5, you can play the .10$ or .25$ but no higher than that.

Have to follow strict BRM.

Thanks for the replies everybody! I'll definitely consider all of these suggestions and take some time before I make a decision.

If I have some success or total failure I'll post an update haha.

I think you miss the account that five dollars and just play freerolls because what they easily won so quickly it can be repealed.
Better if you play some 1-2 freeroll where you can learn things or looking at a few educational films from which much can be learned

you might want to try some more freerolls and build, otherwise the double or nothings are pretty good, the inexpensive games though, people take more risk than would otherwise cause the cost is so small, watch out for that.

Today I won 2 tickets for Pokerstars' Weekly Round 2 tournament from the Badugi and Razz satellites. I had never played either of those games until today haha.

Maybe I can increase my bankroll with those 2 tickets... I'll probably play the Weekly Round 2 NL Hold'em tournament, because I also tried Omaha today and I am very bad at it.

Are you a beginner? I'd suggest low limit sngs, aswell as taking part in freerolls to build your roll from scratch.

I've played a fair bit of NL Hold 'em, but mostly with play chips and freerolls. The only time I played cash was for 1-2 weeks several years ago (before Black Friday) after I won $2 in a play chip tournament on Full Tilt.

Today I spent about $2 on some of those 45 person Sit 'N Gos, and I kept getting knocked out around 10-20th place. However, after that, I tried a $0.27 MTT that said '$250 Gtd' and I placed 3rd out of 1700 people, and I won $35! I had some serious good luck with my cards though... I think I'm a pretty bad player, but I just got cards at the perfect moments. Once I made it to the final table I just waited for people to knock each other out haha.

I'm so happy right now! My bankroll is now a little bit under $40, so I can play little MTTs whenever I want! =)

Well nice going! I would suggest sticking to low limit games while you develop your skills and get better, one of the problems I faced early on was that I played to big for my bankroll and ended up busting pretty quickly over and over again.. wish you luck on running up your roll mate! :)

i always like to try to double up a dollar at the .01 / .02 tables and then use that dollar to enter a dollar tournament

Thanks! =) I'll definitely stick to the tournaments with small buy-ins. The highest I might try is Pokerstars' $0.55 MTT, but the $0.27 ones seem pretty good. If I want to take a shot at a bigger tournament, I might try a few of the $0.11/0.22 satellites. I'll also keep playing some freerolls, and/or the Open Skill League.

That's an interesting idea. Kind of like your own personal satellite. ;) For now, I think I'll stick with these micro MTTs, but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

Play sit & go buy-in $ 0.10 360 people . I was there once took first place . Or play spin & go for $ 1 , it is possible to increase the pot. Do not think and do not chase for big winnings , play carefully otherwise you can lose everything
