Why did this player win the pot?

There was straight on the board by the river and even though he had an ace we both had a straight, so why did he win the pot?



Was it because he had a 6 and it was the higher end of the straight?

because of the 6 he has.....you have a wheel, straight A-5...because of the 6 he has a better straight....2-6

Just wondering when all his money went in but it looks like the 2 sealed it for them but the A didn't help ether

Because A2345 it is the weakest straight in holdem.. You have low straight, your opponent have high straight 23456..

Why was this pot chopped?

We both had an ace but I had a higher 4 over his 3 and I swear I once saw a pot go to someone in a similar situation once and this is why i'm asking this.

in razz a2345 is better but not in NLHE

@great, you combine all the five board cards and your 2 cards and form the highest 5 card hand you can make.

the board was a five high flush and he had a six high flush so thats why he won

Bothof those pots the first one is because he has the 6.. like you finally saw and the second you use your best 5 cards so you both had the same hand...

Questions are fine & most here are glad to help, but, it does no harm to acknowledge understanding the answer to previous question afore tossing out next one.

I've seen this kind of thing happen a number of times and it's not pretty:

Board consists of something like

Player A holds and gets it all in on the river with Player B.

Player B turns over and Player A is left to stew in his own juices.

Just a cooler, not much you can do but it's always sick when you're on the losing end.

IMO you should play with play money first to further understand the game before proceeding to real money.This is not good for your roll.Zynga or PS playmoney should be a nice platform for you to develop knowledge without any risk.

Nope I would assume it was serious questions. A lot of people who are new to the game make the mistake of not thinking what their best 5 card hand against their opponents best 5 card hand. I was also one of them, I even emailed PS to show a hand thinking I had been cheated boy did I feel stooooopid when they explained it to me

I think whats going on greatlesly is your playing different types types of poker games like razz or omaha hi/lo and texas hold em and are switching between them and are getting confused as the games have similarites they are very different as well, I would stick with one game (I recommend start with hold em) and learn all the rules completly then you can try the others.
