I play holdem only, never tried Omaha, it looks to complicated. Is Omaha something i should consider? If you know how to play Holdem, would Omaha be easy to learn? Thanks.

Omaha is basically the same game as Holdem. They both use community cards. The only thing that is different is that you must choose 2 hole cards to play (which means you can only choose 3 from the board). There can be no other combo. Now when playing hi/lo, the two cards for the lo hand can be different than the two for the high hand, or not.

If you're fairly new to H/E (less than 18 mos experience) then maybe you shouldn't branch out just yet. The strategies can correlate but it isn't like they dovetail or anything. There are things from different games that help you in others but unless you're a savant or something, I wouldn't try to learn them all at once.

if you are ever going to play omaha, you should become well versed in drawing odds and pot odds, omaha is usually a pot limit game and understanding your exposure, and drawing odds on all types of hands is very important in this type of game.

I think it's rather easy to learn the rules.

Also it will be useful to watch how other men play omaha,
to determine the beginning range of your starting hands.
AA or KK are not as strong hands here as in holdem.
You can open a buy-in tournament or cash game table and watch a little.

Then try it by yourself. Omaha for me is a very interesting game.
Good luck.

Imho in omaha the starting hands are way more important because no one is folding pre. Good luck.

It is a steeper learning curve. More action, more excitement. Brings out a lot of fish. Way more hand possibilities, big variance swings.

In omaha you have more possibilities to win or lose some hand. In that game every players can calls with every cards. There isn't to much skills like in the hold'em, it's much based on luck. I play only the PL and NL Omaha, but I don't know to play Omaha Hi/Low. I don't know the rules for that game.

High low or omaha 8 just means that the lowest hand splits the pot. The low hand must have a high card no bigger than an 8 with no pairs, the nut low being the wheel (A2345) but remember you still MUST use 2 cards from your 4 and 3 from the board. Good luck.

Yes I know that but I don't know in what cases we split the money. I mean I don't now the rules for winning the low pot, so if you have some written article or something else when I can read the rules of that game please send me or you can send me some link if you know. I need only to read in what cases I can win the low pot because about the high pot is the same like in the PL or NL Omaha, right.

Omaha is 6 times harder than HE.

You start with 6 HE hands, and each player at the table also has 6 HE hands. Then the Flop happens and all shit breaks loose.

The frequency of an A high hand winning a pot is about the same as the frequency of a 6 high winning a HE hand.

If you are in need of learning Omaha and do not learn a decent game via play money, you are a sucker and I want to be there......

I play Omaha because it's a refreshing break from grinding NLH. I love the complexity (not really that bad) and the people who know nothing about Omaha just pay you off big a lot of the time.

Action packed

I love Omaha for the action: No other game has as many draws, and so many swings. But you need to be in it for the ride.

Like Boocha, i play Omaha (freerolls) as a pleasant break from NLHE. Not that i'd play for money yet. I prefer the hi-lo version. Fixed limit is better (as a freeroll) because of the bet-anything-all-in nutters in No Limit. The rules are simple to pick up but knowing when you have a good starting hand, when to bet, when to fold, are skills that take much longer to appreciate. And playing both hi and lo hands at the same time is a bit of a mind **** when you first do it.

I definitely recommend trying Omaha, especially O8!
Generally a lot more exciting than Holdem.
Wish I could learn it myself :)

I'm new in the Omaha game, yust so you know.

If you have 4 cards in the hand, can't you yust whait for two pairs or tree of a kind and go all in right away? Or whait for all of them beeing 1 color, so you only need 1 more?

It's quite easy. Also the other types of poker aren't that hard. Try 8-Game which is quite good or my favourite (HORSE).

I found the transition to Omaha very tricky. I recommend mastering the pot odds as you often find yourself in very difficult situations.

if possible get yourself a stats calc on it to get a idea for what are good starting hands you could also try funding a book on it best bet is to just jump in on a site and play some with playchips and go from there

Did the omaha hype end ? There is still No-Limit Texas Holdem almost everywhere and i think it will never really be replaced by any weird variation of the poker game !
One reason is almost any hand has almost the same equity (but you want to have an edge, right ?)and its more gambling than NLHE.

I've mentioned many times about there being 6 holdem hand dealt to you each hand.

I play a live Omaha Hi/Lo game where the players get 5 down cards (seems this should have a different name), and that equates to 10 holdem hands and/or 10 razz (sort of) hands each deal.

I have a couple of reasons to play this game over other live tourneys available at about the same time;

1 Holdem almost bores me lately
2 It is at a very close Casino...a bit less than 10 miles and they are freeway easy miles on Saturday afternoon,
3 They seldom make the guarantee, always close tho, it is a small field.
4 It is the cheapest Saturday afternoon game around at $45 total
5 They provide free eats and drinks Lemonade and punch for tourney players.
6 2 more times and I will probably be considered a regular.
