Player 1: k.7.
Player 2:k.4.
Community cards: q.q.3.a.9.

I was playing wsop and something similar to this occurred. In the end, the pot was split. I'm confused and sort of new and would like to know if player 1 should have won since his 7 beats player 2's 4.

It always comes down to the best 5 cards each player has.

Each player had a pair of queens. The third best card is the Ace on the board, the fourth best is the a King each player is holding, and the fifth best card is the 9 on the board.

Each player had identical best hands of QQAK9 so the pot was split.

Where you really playing WSOP, or just watching - LOL. If you were playing and didn't know this answer, I don't think you finished on the final table.

You combine all the seven cards ( 5 com. cards and 2 on your hand) and form the highest possible 5 card hand.

In this case, you and opponent has identical combine 5card hand - QQAK9.
