Hey all, I am an absolute virgin. I am studying online stuff, watching top tournaments, and playing free chip games online. I am in for the long haul!!!!
My question is....is there anywhere that I can play for free and actually learn how to play properly?.... as the online free chip games are all full of folk who are just playing it like a computer game. I'm afraid that I learn absolutely squat playing with them....they are all nuts lol
Thanks
Shearnie :)

If you can play at poker stars check out their training site Pokerschoolonline. There are free training videos and sessions and an open league where, although the play is not pro you will learn to play better.
There are also cash prizes for the top 1000 finishers each month to help you start building a small bankroll.

I found a site where you can train your skill with nothing more that a poker robot....

It gave you advice to make good decision.

No need to register to just play with bot ,but you can register easily to be able to train with the bot.
I am registered and test it enough to say that is it a cool tool to learning poker, it gave you advice on each decision you have to take...

I would also like to add, continue being a member here. There are many great players that have some valuable insight into how they became a profitable player.

It's invaluable information given that its free and this forum can give you so much insight into finding your own style. Just the support alone with the freerolls is something that has made me a better player. Stick around!:)

Find online poker lessons without problems. Even the video is complete. Read, watch, learn and play. The main thing to get experience

Check out Twitch as well. You can watch on your computer or mobile device, and there are plenty of people who play online poker that you can watch.

Prior to the wsop, Jason Somerville (jcarverpoker) played 70 straight days online. I caught some portions of it and found it very insightful. He is the most prominent broadcaster to date, but now that he's at the WSOP, he isn't playing any online. There are others that you can watch.

Casey (bigdogpocket5s) Jarzabek (lead coach at Tournament Poker Edge) - He is currently grinding online (on Stars and Full Tilt).
For those in the US, butters is one that is grinding (on wsop.com), Dutch Boyd is another.

Check it out. I think it will be a great place to learn.

cardplayerpokerschool.com I needed a refresher, and found this website. Completely free tutorial, with exams after each lesson. If you are a virgin to poker, it might be a little hard to grasp at first, but it is complete education. Hope this helps

Also, it's free to rail players at higher table limits. You can pick up a lot watching players bet sizing and the hands they play in and out of position.

to play for free, such as poker stars, Americas card room, Black Chip Poker.
I hope this helps you.

Ditto NLOP. But, I always tell people, get "invited" there. Don't sign up directly. Many, MANY more bonuses if you're invited.

Can't lose a penny. Have made over $1,000. Not "big bucks", but ZERO risk.

I've used few of the guides in pokerschoolonline and found them helpful, especially if you are a beginner

You can learn alot here, there is a strategy section for cash games, and for tournaments. The members are very supportive and helpful, you can make threads to discuss any hands you are unsure of you play in, etc...
This is a good read https://www.cardschat.com/poker-strategy.php
Good luck!

To play poker for free is not possible. At a minimum you must spend time and Time Really is Money.
If you want to play it cheaply AND FOR FUN, then play freerolls until you get a bit of a bank roll. In the early part of these tournaments there are lots of people who go all in with nothing and you will not learn much UNTIL you survive to the end. I find once you are past the bubble, the poker play (and players) becomes much better.
Also remember that betting; and the value people put on money is a big part of the game. So you can't play for free otherwise your opponents wont value the bets they make and therefore will call with anything.

There are some sites with great promotions(No deposit bonus)and here`s Cardschat and many other sites with fancy freerolls so don`t tell me that free onlie poker is not possible.
Yes It`s very hard to start with freerolls but it`s not impossible!

I play a lot of Freerolls and most of what I have read and learnt about how to play is irrelevant as the OP says there's a lot of crazy people there... Anyway, I just wanted to suggest that if you can stretch to a dollar then the 'daily dollar' on full tilt is a good tourney for beginners cos you start with 5000 chips and there is a reasonable amount of 'sensible' play.

Alternatively... On Titan Poker, there is a freeroll everyday for new members only that starts with 20,000 chips ! and 30c blinds, so that tourney can play out at a leisurely pace sometimes but you still get nutters going all in from time to time... Hell who doesn't with a couple a rockets in the hole :)

As you have already discovered, mainstream freerolls are just donkfests where it is very difficult to develop your game.

Private freerolls on the other hand can be useful. By private I mean those where the password isn't leaked, such as those run by CardsChat. Take the time to read up on the requirements for the CardsChat Freeroll Club. Cardschat Freeroll Club Requirements.

These are far better than your average for 'sensible' play. Other forums run good ones too not like the Bank Roll Mob ones where the password is always leaked.

I agree that good poker book is necessary to read when you just beginning to learn poker. I can recommend you to read "Polished poker" by John Anhalt.
This book is a good variant for newbees - it's easy to read, explain many things and free. In addition it has a paid workbook with tasks and questions about the material of the book.
