Hey again guys!

So I know the basics. I've been playing Hold 'Em for years, but only occasionally and casually.

I wouldn't mind getting to know the game a bit better. I've already started to read some books (Read Super/System, now reading The Theory of Poker and planning on picking up Negreanu's book when I'm done)

I have no illusions or delusions about being a professional poker player. I don't think I'd even want that if it were possible.

I like playing it because it's fun and don't want to lose that.

However, I would love to be good enough to make a bit of pocket money online from it every month. Nothing that I could live off. But the odd 100 quid here or there would be lovely.
Most of all, I'd like to be better than my friends :D

Anyway, where's a good place to start? I'm a bit overwhelmed by the wealth of information on this site so would love it if someone could point me int he right direction to get me going

Thanks all

No-Limit Hold'em: Theory and Practice is probably a good place to start. It covers a lot of ideas in varying degrees of depth, and it will give you a lot to think about on your own.

Small Stakes No-Limit Hold'em is another good book that should probably be read after NLHE: Theory and Practice. It's a slightly more advanced book, and it's geared towards getting better at blind stealing, 3-betting, defending against 3-bets and playing post-flop.

Honestly, making a deposit in one of the sites discussed here is as good of advice I can give you. Play some real money games - even at the lowest stakes you will learn a ton.

Stay on this site and eventually you will know where everything is and how to find things relevent to your learning...play real money games and post hands in the cash section for analysis......at the beginning I would play more and get some table time so that you understand what you are reading in the books...learn the fundimentals well, and work on each one until it becomes 2nd nature i.e pre flop starting hands from what position, position relative to the blinds and button, bet sizing, pot odds and outs, villian types, ranges etc....get 'holdem manager' for stats on your opponents at the table so you can work out a stratagy....GL

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll definitely be checking out those books.

I do already have an account at poker stars. I'm a massive 30 dollars in profit in 2013. moneybags! Haha

I mostly play sit n gos though and don't really know how to approach a cash game.

I do already know the basics of poker. As I said I've played for years casually and I've studied a couple of books. So I guess I consider myself decent at ABC poker but not much more than that.

So not a complete beginner but definitely have loads to learn.

I intend to stick around here for a while so ill read as much of the sites as I can and see how I get on!

Collin Moshman has a pretty good book about SNGs if you're looking to get better at that. Learning to work with ICM is mandatory, and he covers it.

This is a good book for Sit 'n Goes. (I was told to read it when I started to play poker online and am glad I did)

You might be able to get the book from the library.

I agree that hands on experience might be the best way to get the hang of things.:p
