I am sure this question has been asked before, however, it is an important one:
Where/How do you study poker?

Is there specific book, video series, training site that you study poker in?

Thank you to all who share their method!

I would recommend study poker in as many ways as possible. If you just study your own hands you will never know how you would correct them. I suggest reading some books and also watch videos, and then you can anylize your own hands because you will know how to correct your play.

Twitch is a great place to watch how players, at a wide range of skill, play their hands in MTT's and cash games.

I just got back into poker. I am getting into studying a bit, however, I am not fully into it yet. I want to eventually get a pretty consistent poker studying/playing regimen

@Doubledunk
Ooo, there's a study group here in CC? Mind sending me a link to the group's thread?

Thank you everyone for your input! It is well appreciated!

Ways to win in poker by studying on your own !:
The Internet!
Forums and Discussion Groups,
Youtube
Boom replayer from pokerstars,

Some poker books that I recommend:

"The theory of poker. Author: David Sklansy "

"How to win poker tournaments - one hand at a time vol. 1, 2 and 3. Authors: Eric "Rizen" Lynch, Jon "Apestyles" Van Fleet and Jon "Pearjammer" Turner. "

There is no cake recipe ready to study on your own.

You should look for ways that best fit your schedule, habits, and lifestyle, and which will allow you to take greater advantage (some people learn more by reading, others by listening, and others by watching).

"The Poker Mindset. Authors: Ian Taylor and Matthew Hilger. "

lol 9 hours per day. That is a huge amount of efforts if you r not playing it as a full-time activities.

Anw back to OP question, I do learn from other. I spend time taking notes on everyone I met in order to have a broadview on major playing style

I've been playing poker since I was 15 years old when we used to play 25c ante cash games in the lunch room. I've tried to study poker. I've tried to perfect my TAG game, memorize starting hands, flop percentages and shove charts.

I'm 26 now. Want to know what I've learned in 11 years? None of it matters. There are plenty of "competing" strategies to learn but believe me, there is no such thing as a "winning" strategy.

Get your feet wet. Take some shots. Certain key lessons I didn't learn until I busted steps away from final table in the Sunday storm a few months ago for my biggest cash. Since then I've looked at the whole game differently.

I'm just watching the game top regs at high stakes and then analyze their play and try to understand

I mainly watch training videos and occasionally I will read an article. I try to set aside a certain amount of time each week to review poker hands, videos, etc. and I usually do this on a day when I am not scheduled to play poker.

There are lots of materials out there. Not so much when I started playing, just a few books like Super System. The internet changed poker.

In 2003 the wsop went from 800, to 2500 in 2004, to 5600 in 2005.

Not only are there more players, armed with hundreds of thousands of hands played online and a new way to share information, the new generation of players, were and are, more difficult to play against as they have become looser and hyper aggressive (I love to watch Hellmuth melt down when 67s cracks his AA/KK).

I think books are outdated. They are great for nostalgic purposes, but have already been analyzed and picked apart, people are watching you play in the rear view mirror.

Blogs, interviews, and videos on the net are certainly the way to learn the "current" temperature and style of poker. The important thing is that I could explain to you for hours how to ride a bike, but most likely you would fall on your face. Some things are learned by "doing" rather than "reading".

I limit my poker studies to 2-4 hours a week. The rest of the free time I play. Don't put too much time into learning how others play, you need to be spending more time on developing your own winning style and exploring what works for you. This can only be done at the tables.

Every week try to learn 1 new technique and implement it in your game. If it works, keep it, if not, leave it at the wayside, but much more time should be spent playing than reading.
