Hi there,

Sometimes I fold this hands during tournaments and let's say 50% of my moves like this were good. Do you have some specific situation or rules when is good to fold hands such this ones. Especially I am wondering for AQ because AK is sometimes hard to fold.

when there many opponents limping in or when i have many BB and just want to get into money....well i dont get much excited when i get AQ or AK starting phase of a tourney as many players play loose in this phase and gets tighter when blinds increase

is hard is usually used for me as semi bluff to bare board sometimes I bet to end and pay off someone which sucks but more often i get paid up.

So I overplay these hands often but majority of time it works out. Yet is something I think on for sure.

When there are more than 3BB limpers pre-flop, thats when I start considering folding. More than 2 opponents also aint good.

Hi AjsmenX and welcome to Cardschat. I fold a lot of those hands also, and like you, I see I made the right play after the flop. But I see players who will play any A? all the way to the river, and many times they win, and that will make me want to do the same, but it just don't work for me, so I muck at least 50% of those hands.

I got tired of folding with these cards depends on the situation you are in, if someone gives all-in tournaments and I realize they are trying to intimidate me usually paid with these hands, or if the guy has fewer chips I also paid, it pre-flop.
If after the flop already gave fold in cases of possible flush and Straight, three-of-kind part of the game, even with pair of A or K or two pair gave fold, everything depends on the flop, turn and river .. .

This is also hugely dependent on stack sizes and blinds. Multiple all-ins before you and it costs you 10% of your stack to call? Easy decision. Multiple all-in's in front of you and you've got 5BB? Also an easy decision, you're out of time. If you bust, fine, if you win you're going to at least triple up and be back in business.

Multiple all-in's where I have to risk 50+ BB to call? I think I'm going to fold it unless it's a typical public freeroll. I don't think I'm ever calling there in a CC freeroll or league game, this is going to be a flip at the very best and that is too many chips to risk on a flip.

It's easier to fold AQ than AK generaly , AK is very strong but that doesn't mean I don't get rid of it , the same as AQ when i'm on difficult situations such as when it's early on a tournament and the blinds are low so you cannot protect effectively the value of your cards with bets/raises , when many , more than two , see the flop , especially if the flop is heavy/wet and has many draws and many raises and reraises follow the initial raise .
In addition to these , I don't play these cards , the same as many others , when I'm on the bubble , I have very few blinds and I want to get paid .

Pre flop I narmmaly dont fold except some situations in tournaments but after seeing flop If i have no outs and my opponent bets 4bb or more I fold 9 out of 10 times. But I have seen most players does not fold AK in any situation. I dont understand why Because winning % of AK is not more than 50%.

When I have a players range so narrow that I believe I'm almost always behind when he raises or sometimes I'll fold these two hands when I know I will get outplayed by villain on flop.. SS cash game, I've been folding AQ more than usual.. The last few sessions I would say I've been leaking pretty bad by not 3 betting with these hands to isolate..

It depends on how much risk you are willing to take. There are a lot of threads about over playing AK. I fold AQ to any re-raise.

I can fold these hands when I am in a big pot and there is some action or when I can see a good board for my opponent(low flop, street-draw,flush-draw)

Out of position, I often fold AQ to a raise or reraise. Not always, but in general I don't fall in love with AQ.

AK, I've folded from time to time, but I'm almost always raising or reraising preflop. If I get 3-bet or 4-bet and I have AK, I've folded because I usually read that as AA or at the very least at pocket pair. If I don't like being in a coin-flip situation against what I think is a pocket pair, I've folded AK preflop before.

If someone goes all in,instant fold AQ and AK,i play them if i dont pay more than 3bb to see flop,AK is the most dangerous combination,i have lost a lot of pots with them.

Are you talking pre or post flop? Post is easy, wet board and you don't connect, lay it down because theres about a 70%+ chance you're behind

Well it depends what format you are talking about. You mentioned tournaments in your post but the approach with these two hands would be totally different if you play cash games for instance.

In general, they are both very strong hands and I am not looking to fold them very often.

I try to see flop with AK and AQ, but if there is nothing for me, I would fold easy. I think they value goes up later in tournament, then I would be ready to go all-in, especially if it's only one opponent.

Easy fold AK at new table with unknown players if more than one raise. But never fold against bluffer when You recognaize them. Probably for me AK and AQ would be similar play, except I would less fold suited ones... but trying keep presure on other with those and if flop is against and get reraised then probably I will fold. Lets say overall 60% play hard and 40% play soft and fold ;)

The only time I may think of folding AK is if I'm deep stacked in a tourney.

The best time would be if you assume that the opponent is having 3 of a kind, straight or a flush. On the other hand, before flop is good to call AK if there is no one going all in. In some cases you can go all in with AK if you assume that you are playing against a weak player or someone who is hot ( by hot I mean someone who is pissed off and tries to get out of the game)... It basically depends on the situation you are in :)
