So when do successful players usually start to dribble some of their bankrolls for non-poker expenses? When should a bankroll be considered big enough to sustain itself with decent poker? If you guys have stories or experiences where you've spent money from a well-developed bankroll, please share. I am extremely curious on how strict people are with their BRM.

poker sites shut down all the time. When my bankroll at a poker site hits $500, I am looking for yhe cashier. Had too many of my rolls to chance being out nice money. This gives me an opportunity to throw $25 to $50 on a competitor poker site that looks like an up and comer.

The only negative is if I let my bankroll ride, and did not have the fear of poker sites shutting down, I shutter at the amount of money I could have won over time by stepping up in levels. I'll never know, or I may find out in the future when I feel the sites offered to U.S. players is stable.

I had a strategy for cashing out in the past, used to play 5nl and everytime im up $30 i cashed ou $20, then again make 30 and cashout $20. In this way my bankroll always grew with $10 after a period.
Unfortunately i needed money to move to another place so after all of that i had $0 :( but the plan worked and the bankroll kept growing while cashing out at times.

Every 2 months,i take out 90% of my winnings, leaving enough to play micros,,i used to leave $ in ($200-$2000) but i found i just end up punting away the money. So instead of wasting it,i take it out and waste it,lol.

Usually I let it grow until around $150. If I then have some win, that breaks this mark significantly, I usually decide to withdraw it to my e-Wallet and keep about $30-60 in the room .

I don't like to keep too much money on the room. So I also have the possibility to deposit some again when there is some nice promo or new interesting poker room. Therefore I also keep some money on the e-Wallet.

But I also withdraw from the e-Wallet, when I want to make myself a present and want to reward myself for my efforts and succsess in poker. :)

I really appreciate the insight of everyone's preferred "banking" methods. What's the highest you've ever grown your bankroll?

try to keep 50 buy ins to play your ussual range of tournaments & other money ->.
also, it's good idea to keep less than 300$ , if you play micro limits

It helps to have goals. Double your bankroll is a good goal.

Preferred banking method

I really appreciate the insight of everyone's preferred "banking" methods. What's the highest you've ever grown your bankroll?

From $0 I got up to $15 using free-rolls. When I win I bank most. and when I risk any, I risk a small, set amount.

I've usually heard generally close to 10%; some people will do this per win, or per tournament ship if they are tournament players.

For Cash i'd say it's a bit more complicated, generally speaking cash game players have more of what you'd call a blended roll (Liferoll and Bankroll are pretty much one shared pool)

You of course want to not pull out too much, so that you can continue advancing, but it really depends on your own personal situation, lots of factors.

It depends a lot on what you want to do with your money and how much you want to accumulate in order to have a bank that allows you to live with that. The best thing I think is to withdraw the money and leaving an amount that allows you to face bad spells and thus not having to start from 0 that costs much more. For example, in the case of having 40USD I would take 30 to secure a good amount and have 10 to play at lower limits and get more money
