I was just wondering when y'll recommend someone to start playing live. The cheapest blinds for NLH in my town are 1-3 but I could find a 1-2 game about 25 minutes away. Judging from reading about BR management from other posts, I should have nearly 3k behind for the 1-3 games but that seems like an awful lot of saving (or grinding micros and then withdrawing the winnings) until I'm suited for that play. Obviously skill needs to be incorporated into this decision, just wanted to hear y'all's stories on when you started live games.

ive played since was 11 got into the dominos pizza owners games when they started dominos this was not holdem games and was scary always had family with me and I won. Just went from there. If i have 100 bucks is enough for me to sit at a 1-3 game at hardrock. I usually win a bit of cash.

I started playing live in 2004. I miss the good ole days because when the Moneymaker effect happened there where charity games, house games, and underground leagues everywhere. Not so much anymore....

why wait ? if the BR is there and you think you have it down then
get in there and take your shot :) you can only get experience by playing.
I would take a couple hundred to the 1-2 games as soon as you can afford
to lose it and just have a good time playing and go from there. JMO :)

It's hard to tell without knowing more info, but for me I found the live games were a massive amount easier than the equivalent online. Definitely drive the extra few miles to play in the minimum stakes first though

Go and play for the enjoyment. I use a roll for online, but just take money out of the bank if I want to play live every now and then.

If you are in Ca, then most of the poker is LIMIT! Yeah, there is some NL, but you could get by with a $100 day at a limit table. Even if you are aiming at NL, you might want to get your feet wet at Limit tables.

Your first trips to the casino will be fact finding more than anything else. Just try to have a good time. Consider it an entertainment expense.

I want to start playing NL but I'm scared! I don't think I'm ready to go heads up with people are know are out for my blood! I've been trying to play limit, but it's filled with people who want to see every single river... It's a struggle trying to learn how to play live poker :X
