I was wondering what people look for when they get down on chips late in a tournament. Say you have under 10 BB left what do you shove with in early, middle, and late positions.

What about 5 BB left? Just wondering how good the cards are when you are low on chips. I tend to look for that 'miracle' hand that will send me back to the top, but always end up almost blinding out

Usually, when you are getting close to 10 BB left, you should start looking for a position and/or hand to shove with. Shoving with 5 BB is not going to scare players away, particularly the big stacks.

i guess position is more important than ur hand...and yu could probably shove low pp's in late position...but ideally i'd prefer to shove...pp's 10 and above...and high suited connectors qk or ka...but if i've got 10 bb i'd always try looking at the flop,if i'm not too sure...

with 10 BB, position starts to be less important and finding a quality hand with your cards. if you're late in a tourny, antes will eat away at your blinds until you've got nothing, if anything, go with the 1010 or above to push, even a lower pair, it's a coin flip

Yeah, I agree that it is most important to go all-in when you have around ten times the big blind in chips. The lower and lower your chip stack gets, the easier it will be for your opponents to call. The more opponents calling means the lesser chance for you to win the pot. When your short stacked, try to go all-in with high cards if you have them, otherwise try suited connectors, etc. If your short stacked, your just going to have to hope that your cards hold up.

when to shove.. well position definetly matters.. in early position you probably should play a monster hand.. in late position on the button or in the SB you could probably shove all in with a more mediocre hand or even attempt to steal the blinds...

shove when u think u r gonna win the hand not because your stack is low and your hand is "decent" not unless you have a top ten hand. just cause u only have 7 bbs doesnt mean u should push with an A8 os

I think is is going to depend how far along you are in a Tourney, if you are near the money; I would wait and get blinded out to make the money or if you pick up a monster (High pocket pairs or AK AQs) then push.
