When should I fold in cbet?

When Should I fold? I dont have many ideas on when should I fold. Any advice would be helpful ty.

Post hhs where you think you should fold.

I mean in general. For eg Im at button with AKs. The raiser raised pf and flop come 4 Q 5 rainbow flop. Should I call? Because I have overpair or fold?

In general it depends. Not really a great answer, huh.

What does it depend on?

Tourney or cash?
If tourney, ITM, on the bubble, just started?
Effective stacks?
What's your opponent like?
How often does he cbet the flop? Turn?
What's your image like?
How much $$ went in preflop?
How likely is your opponent to bet the turn with worse?
How likely is your opponent to call if you raise?
Anyone else left to act?
Probably a few other things I'm forgetting atm.

So you see there is no answer to your question because it's too general. Posting a few hands you have qusetions about will help you 10000 times more than this thread.

Here is an example of a recent hand I played.

CO is a 17/9/3 type who cbets 100% over 155 hands.
BB is a horrible 91/0/.5 over a short 30 hands.


Full Tilt, $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 7 Players

3 folds, CO raises to $1.75, Hero calls $1.75, SB folds, BB calls $1.25

Flop: ($5.50) 4 A Q (3 players)
BB checks, CO bets $3, Hero calls $3, BB folds

Turn: ($11.50) 7 (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $6.50, CO folds

Results: $11.50 pot ($0.55 rake)
Hero mucked Q J (a pair of Queens) and won $10.95 ($6.20 net)

So in this hand I call the cbet with middle pair because the BB is never bluff raising and the CO is unlikely to bet the turn without an Ace. As always being in position makes my hand so much easier to play.

Now you post a hand where you floated a flop.

Alvin, WV's right - you've been asking some great questions, but the answer to almost all of them is "it depends" - posting specific hand histories will help you understand the "it depends" answers.

Note the huge list of variables WV listed as relevant to your question, and note also that in WV's hand he's showing here, he's playing his opponents and their likely ranges as much as his own hand. Second pair isn't exactly a stellar hand, but he plays the situation beautifully (and he could have 82o in this situation, wouldn't make a difference to this specific situation, since it doesn't go to showdown).

You have a weak DRAW to an overpair... with overcards. But I think that is what you meant.

You ask "Fold or call". Call should be the play you always consider for the longest. Often you are narrowing down your range quite a bit when you call. In other words... calling represents the fact that you are sitting on a speculative hand.

Now you put yourself in a position you have to either hit a A or a K to keep going - or start bluffing this late in the hand?

And if you do hit them, what are you going to do? When you bet you are most frequently going to be called by hands that are ahead of yours since they now can feel safe you paired a big card. Everyone else folds... giving you the smallest pot you could win here.

So.. most cases I think the question is better asked "Fold or Raise?".

Of course... this is a rule of thumb... calling certainly has its place.
