I wanted an opinon on when to quit poker. Luck is factor. Some say 60 40. Skill to luck. Even thr most skilled need a little luck. You cant win without decent holding every time. Yes u can bluff and take a few pots in the right situation. You need at least some playing cards at a point. So was wondering has anyone ever had consistant cold decks. More often then not playing sessions where i have been basically blinded out because i was not dealt anything other the worst of the worst. 52 O K2 O etc..how do u get past this. I know everyone has cold decks. But come on. Been playing for almost 2 years with a some what good player coaching. Yet how do u learn and grow if u cant get good cards to start from. I have had more bad night of just not getting started then bad playing. If it was bad playing then i would try to find my leaks and how to become better. Are some just that unlucky?

Try learn more about poker, buy coaching , watch videos to learn play online. There are many examples of pro online players , they playing a lot of tournaments or hands to make profit, they beat this luck factor in a long term. So , quit poker because you think you unlucky its same as quit because you not learn enough about poker...

The idea to drop is always present, but we have to fight, although the sense of loss is present.

I play on line. There i play micro and i would im an straight rvrn player. I dont win but i dont lose. I make a few dollars. I lose a few. I keep track. I am basically evrn over months of playing. So not sure how to profit. Still learning and reading lots of material. Just hard to be a einning player when u get trash cards for months and months on end. Not a joke. I habe went a whole session of a few hours and literally saw 4 flops. Only times i had playable hands.

Luck plays absolutely no roll in winning or losing. Luck = Random mathematical variance. You play one deck and only one session in your lifetime. Sometimes the cards are different and sometimes you sleep for a while but it is one deck and one session for your life. Luck simply evens out over your lifetime of playing and should never be considered or mentioned...Ever. You have been dealt poor starting hands and feel as though it is unlucky. This is an illusion. Forget it. You are being dealt the same hands as the guy you see winning all the time. Cards are one factor to consider but there are about a million more..infinite is a more accurate way of stating it. Concentrate on having no emotional reaction what so ever to anything that happens on the table good or bad. Just play. Always make the best possible decision. Review every hand and every decision you make. Be critical. Results mean nothing. Be satisfied that you made the correct decision despite losing to a 2 outer on the river. Be unhappy that you won a huge hand where you made a poor decision and won a to outer on the river. Your cards that you were dealt in the past mean nothing. At the table they never never happened. This hand coming up is your first play it like it is your last. Do everything you can at ever point in the hand to make the best decision possible. Try breaking out of bad cards slumps by playing ever button hand you are dealt with a raise or re raise. Do not allow your cards to dictate your results. They should not and they do not for great players. Now quit complaining and go kick some ass! Good luck

id recommend dropping down in stakes and keep grinding. the cold deck evens out over time, as when that sun run comes and you cannot loose a pot is nice. just keep at it and stay patient

i think you play too tight & only focusing on your whole cards

open up a little but stay on a safe BRM, GLGL

Time to quit

I say if you like the game you stick with it. If it's starting to make you angry or is affecting your daily life away from the game, then maybe it's time to take a break.

You might want to keep statistics ? And then decide to play or not to play .

The main takeaway here is to be patient, it's not important how many flops you see but how much money you make when getting into a hand. As pointed out you could be playing too tight and missing in some hands due to this. You range could change based on position and what you consider to be your opponents range an betting style. I play poker as an entertainment, so if I'm not having fun, then I close the App and go do something else.

Poker for me is a multi-faceted game. The obvious part is playing because that's usually the fun part. The hard part is working to get better. Modifying my game through reading, hand analysis, thinking and understanding sucks sometimes but for me it's the only way to do it.

Life is luck. You go to school get a job. But maybe someone else gets the job because are ahead of you. What if your girlfriend meets someone five minutes before you. You never know what cards your going to be dealt and how to play them. You just have to do the best you can with what you got. I've played for over ten years. I've often asked myself "why is someone better than me when I do the same thing?" I have run "bad beats" on players as well have them ran on me. I've been beaten multiple times by that one card in the deck that gives the other player the winning hand. I've read and studied and watched. I wonder how people just call of their stacks with nothing but then be only slightly better than me and I look like a donkey. I find it impossible to believe that you haven't gotten any cards. I do believe that sometimes one does play correctly and still loses. I just played a cash game for about 2 hours and had AA,KK, QQ, TT, 88, 44. Flopped trips with kings tens and fours. Guess how many of these 6 hands I won? Only the Queens cause people folded. Lost all the others.

I don't generally believe in luck. Cards are non-discriminating objects that should fall in an even distribution to everyone over the long run. Skill is what separates the winners from the losers. I think you need to take a break from poker as you are expecting bad things and it is surely having an effect on how you play hands. Your focus is too much on the two objects in front of you instead of all the action around you. Clear your head for a while, then do some study, then give the game a try again.

Its time to quit when you dont think you have an edge. The biggest contributing factor will be table and game selection.

How do you know if you have an edge on a table before playing? - hopefully you have taken notes on the players and have them color coded.

Preparation, is another factor that will give you confidence on a table you have not yet played. Have you studied the format more than your opponents, have you reviewed more hands, have you watched more training videos, etc?

I think that if you are tired of playing, and it seems to you that you are not lucky. Then just take a short break. If you are really tired of playing poker then throw. You can return and play at any time.

Not tired. Frustrated. I enjoy yhr game except when getting owned. Making mistakes and unlunky. Otherwise it is a passion. A break sounds like a start. Been studying a lot and watching pros play alot.

Mistakes are good if you recognize what happened. I can't fix them immediately but over time I've been able to get rid of the problem.

waiting

i suggest waiting even 3 to 4 hours. i played in a wsop i went from a few places before the money was going to happen to half way in the money without playing one had. the hand i played lost with 6 tables left. i should have waited longer . patience is the key . on the second day i was the shortest stack and saw aces 2 times and won. i suggest just to wait longer

By quitting, do you mean ending the session? If that is the case, my advice is to always play the same amount of time in a session. For example start at 8PM and stop at 12PM. No matter how good… or bad you are doing. That way you stay in control over the sessions you are playing. Especially if you are stuck and desperately trying to get unstuck, resulting in getting broke.

Wow if your tired of playing poker then yes quit. But if your tired of losing that is making you ant to quit playing poker then i suggest you learn to accept this for what it is . A game . Someone wins and most lose. I too had this same struggle and it drove me crazy. I would win maybe 12 times a year and lose the rest. I'm not a pro but i always seen on tv and other big dreams of being one . I thought to myself how hard can it be. Duh really damn hard. I don't dream the big dreams anymore. I don't want to be a pro anymore . I want to be me and play the game i love to play. So i accept who i am and what i know and try to learn more about me and how i play versus trying to play like everyone else that has success. I accept losing its gonna happen if i play lose or tight. Smart or Dumb. Sober or Drunk. Luck or no Luck. Skill or no Skill. By accepting losing it will make me enjoy winning. Play better in the long run. I know when i'm going to get beat alot more now that i accept losing then i hope luck is gonna get me thru. I play my hands with confidence now . It is still tough when you play great and lose but the key is not losing its playing great. So if you enjoy the game keep playing . Accept losing and see what that does for you

Just was hoping to make extra income like part time job worth. And have fun while doing it. But yes been struggling since day one. I get most of strategic plays and understand many parts of poker. Just actually doing it is anothet thrn just moling it over in my head. Thanx for the reply.
