The times that you play online can have a serious impact on your bankroll. Through my experience I have noticed that there are different types of players at different times. This could be due to a lot of factors, late at night, drinking, middle of the day at work and not very focused, after work recreational player, serious early mornining-mid day player. If you are having a bad or good streak, don't forget to look into the trends of the times of day that you play. It could make a big difference!

I've found that on pokerstars, the times of day can greatly affect the action at the ring games, but it's very hard to tell before you sit down. So, now I just look at the # of players currently playing. The bigger the number, the more likely I am to find fish at the tables.

Time of day in general may affect how many players are online at one time at one poker site, but I don't think it influences the overall percentage of a certain kind of player at any one time.

It may be midnight in the US, but it's also mid-day in Europe. Mid-day US is early AM Australia, etc. What does that tell us?

What I do seem to find is that weekends in general are when I find the highest percentage of 'recreational' players, mostly from the US. Worldwide, weekends are also the time when the most alcohol and recreational drugs are being consumed - or smoked, in excesses above the 'norm' during the week.

i would say the best time to play would be Friday night. people have just got paid, and are drinking to start off there weekend. i would think this is when poker sites get most of there depoists.

i think that if you are good enough it should not really matter what time you play because someone is always tired and others are right on there game and ready to take your money if you mess up

Yeah, but I'm just as likely to be drunk and stoned at noon on a Tuesday as I am Saturday night!

Daniel Neg. reckon the best time to hit the tables in Vegas is after a good sleep, and then waking up around 2 or 3am, for the reason's stated in this thread!

in the uk ,playing in the day the standard on ipoker network is mainly european players of average ability but when working day ends tourneys fill quicker and recreational players log on and a 2-3$ rebuy will have twice the starting runners that it would of had 2 hrs previously.this can be good as in bigger prize pool but also it can add a couple of hours on to the overall tourney play time .you start a tourney a 17.30 and making it to the money can be a 3 hour job ,making it to the final table another 2 hours ,i have to play in the day cause evenings are busy for me ,i rarely play late at night anymore but with drunk players on ,maybe i should !!

Just check which region's players dominate the site, what time is in that region, and you will know. If it is mostly european, and its late there, chances are most of them will not play at their best. Also, you might want to go further and try to compose a psychological portrait of players. Say if it is noon in Europe, what kind of people are likely to be online? Grown-up, serious people are likely to be in their offices, so you probably are facing more housewives, students, old folks, pro players etc. In evenings you may find totally different crowd, hence different results.

Late at night has worked best for me too. Seems that if you find the right time, you find those that are tired and aren't paying attention, and those that are have just sat down and don't know how the tables are going.

I've played my best poker early in the morning, like 6am to 10am. I think its a combination of rest and im focused. Sometimes in the evening if Im playing I get bored after being up all day and make a few stupid decisions that I wouldnt normally make. I feel that their are also A lot more people playing in the evenings.
