any opinions would help

You should leave at the moment when you see that you're no longer playing your A-game, but if you experience a cooler or a bad beat it doesn't mean anything and by all means you should continue playing unless your tilt gets ahead of you.

I think Ferguson's BR management calls for standing up as soon as the cash on the table is up to 10% of your BR but if there is free money at the table then I dont see why you should stand up. If you are up 3 BI and its a tough table I would put the profits in your rat hole and sit down at a diff table.

I think Kenny Rogers said it best:

"You got to know when to hold em,
Know when to fold em.
Know when to walk away,
Know when to run."

I'm not really helping I just always wanted to post that. :)

Thank you for the advice to get up on a tough table after 3BI. Would that change much if more than a third (ex: 3 new players have just entered replacing the ones who got busted out) of the players are new?

I think its always a good idea to set some sort of limits before a session. Either those be timelimits, or win loss limits. Just make sure to quit if you are losing in order to avoid tilt.

It is an hard question to me and i have some troubles when i'm in that situation, but i think it is better you have limits in your mind. And when you reached those limit you should stop and run away. Some people like me dont know to play with deep stack very well. So in this moment you feel uncomfortable you should stop and wait for the end of the hour to go away.

you could decide ahead of time, for instance,
If I I get ahead $500 I'm outa here.

I know if I turned $200 into $800 I would leave.....

Yep. I tend to leave as soon as the action stops. Sitting there only makes you play hands you wouldnt normally play & its usually caused by havent the chips to start with.

Leave that 1. Pocket the 3 extra BI's, get a couple of scotches with the change & go again with your original BI.

I leave the table when I made a reasonable amount of profit at that table and I seem not to get any more good hands, and getting my chipstack smaller by the blinds. May sound silly, but whatever

leave the table when it's no longer profitable to play on, also be wary that with a big stack you don't get carried away and starting play your C game, if i quadrupled my BI i would be out of there fast! :D

I would leave after if I doubled up my profit, but I am
just an amateur. Four hours is way too long for me
to be at a table. lol.
Good luck in your games. :)

I think it is interesting stay 4 hours in the same table, because when you do that you can trainning your patience but i know that it is very hard to keep concentrate so many time. i often do that

To me it just depends on how on my game I am in comparison to the competition at the table. I don't always need my A game to beat weak opponents. However, if I'm doubting my play at all, I generally leave. Also when I do start getting a big stack (meaning 300bb+), if I have other regs that are deep that have position on me I'll consider leaving instead of getting into a leveling war deep out of position. But like everything, it all depends... :)

Ahead 4 bi's, on a cold streak, time to hit the road jack. When you get well ahead, you can well expect a drop down, i have done it hundreds of times. I think, well, just one more hand, then one more, and before you know it, those second best hands have took a chunk of all that profit you "had". Getting up from a table after hitting good is not easy, the lure of "just one more hand" is hard to resist. Another time to get up, is if the players become tighter, and action slows down considerably, if your ahead, head for the door.

Sounds good.. Only one table since it's a private game..

Something to think about; would it not be good etiquette to stay on the table if it's a social/private game? Give your fellow poker lovers/mate a chance to win it back?

(Perhaps I misread this and they weren't your friends at all LOL)

havent read the answers, but (excuse me if it has been said) if the game is good and you are focused, play. If the game aint good or you are not focused, quit. Your stack has (IMHO) ABSOLUTLY nothing to do with you continuing or not. If it does, you are playing out of your limits, or your skill level.

Having said that, if the fish are all gone, quit.

I leave a table when i will be tired or not able to play my best poker or to read correctly the play of my oppenements.
Making a limits for profit/looses is the best thing to do in such situations too.
