I've seen many videos where the player will raise from the start of the tourney when the blinds are small (in position), and against the blinds only. To actually start building his stack up+let others know that any hand they play will actually cost you to play in. Don't get me wrong this seems like a great way to get under ppl's skin for when you do have a hand to get stacks in the middle more quickly, it also has a negative effect though (Atleast for me it does:p)...

Which brings me to my question, in what types of games/stakes are these moves actually made for/referring too (By moves I mean, raising when blinds are small 2.5x pre), and getting folds from players?

Does it have to do with the players more then anything else, or is it really more to do with the stakes? Or could it actually be that the player has had history with the said player in question (and thus knows that player to be a timid player/not one to defend his blinds)?

Last but not least could you all give me a general idea of when/whom/ and what types of buy-ins in general these videos refer to or when do you think raises (At what level more or less), would be better done in.

Maybe it does not have to do with the buy-in it self but more to do with the speed of the blinds:confused:

Any assistance most welcome

I'm not sure of the exact question you're asking. Are you asking at what point to reduce your open raise size to 2.5x? I start off 3xing then decrease it at 40/80 to 2.5x and gradually keep decreasing after that. I find that generally you get the same amount of folds but at lower stakes you will get much looser defenders so make your opens larger for these guys to make them pay more.

I use this at all stakes and do find that you'll get called more sometimes so you can just up your raise size when you see this happening. Whatever works on that particular table.

Pretty-much agree with all of this, except I start a little bigger to begin with; say 4x early instead of 3x and gradually reduce it from there as tourney/blinds increase. Also, I never drop below about 2.5x, but I'm playing small buy-in events so that has some bearing as people will call liberally if you go any lower. Now, if you want them to call.....

dont 4x in tourneys imo, its just instantly discourages action/makes you seem bad to regs. start a 3x at max. some regs go even smaller when they think they have a postflop advantage

Should have been a little more precise in my answer, I guess. I'm playing low-buy-in STTs. The majority of players at these levels aren't paying too much attention to things like your standard bet sizing. At the early levels, if I'm just looking to pick up the blinds and dead money in the pot from the limpers; I'll routinely raise 4x + 1bb per limper. If I want action, then I'll raise to 3x + 1 per limper. Don't know why it makes such a marked difference but, from my experience, it does. 4x usually gets a bunch of folds and pick up the dead money. 3x normally gets at least one, often two, callers. Just depends on my goals/plans for the hand.
