I seen this play on the WPT by Woodey Moore . I was wondering what the benefits and common use(s) it is used for . Thanks .

If you had a small pair and flopped a set after checking in the dark it could be of benefit if your opponent hit top pair and would be likely to build the pot for you.

If you do it often (which many pros do) and have a very strong hand or a drawing hand it will encourage a position bet by your opponent which may be very benificial of you hit or have a strong hand.

I think it is used as a way to avoid playing out of position.. correct me if i'm wrong? Probably most effective to do this with a low pocket pair or a drawing hand like suited connectors. Interesting question.

Yes, it negates the positional disadvantage of having to act first.

I does not negate it, it merely diminishes it. Villain in position still has the opportunity to check behind and control pot size. But he does lose the information of your acting first.
