I still don't understand what a value bet is. Could someone explain it to me, give me an example, and how to value bet properly?

The way I have understood value betting is that you are trying to bet not to get the opponent to fold instantly but to make them have to think about it. If you feel like you may both be on middle pair but you are holding an A for a kicker card you would try and bet an amount that would make the player think about calling and folding to extract the highest possible amount from the hand. I could be way off on this so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

A value bet is exactly what the name implies: a bet designed to increase the value of a pot.To wield this type of bet effectively, you need to consider the following information about your opponent: the strength of their hand ,their view of your hand ,their ability to fold and their call amoung threshold.

A value bet is a bet made to increase your profit, for example if you have the best hand in the final betting round and want your opponent to put more money in the pot. This bet has a positive expected value and so increasing the pot size increases your equity and therefore, your winnings.

In other words can say ..A value bet is made when you're fairly confident you have your opponent beat and want to get one last bet out of him on the river.

Example: I had AA which made a set on the river and I bet out small as a value bet because I put my opponent on just two pair.
