Like the title implies, what is "tilting"? I was talking about bluffs and running your mouth to get inside players' heads. Someone said he likes tilting. Is that just an over the top ludicris bet or raise?

Tilting is when you lose a huge pot and then you just keep going all in no matter what cards you get dealt.

When a player is on "Tilt" it just means they are playing poker differently than they normally would, ie worse. Usually it is meant in a negative way, for example when a player takes a bad beat in a tournament and then shoves all his chips in the middle without caring what his cards are or anything else, that is called a Tilt shove.

There is winners Tilt too, when a player has a huge stack they will often start making very loose calls and spew chips because they are ahead, that is also Tilt.

Tilting is another way to describe a player who has or is loosing his ability to play poker rationally and is instead letting his emotions etc make there next play.

I.e 3 bad beats in a row might put someone on tilt. They get angry with the game and start betting out of there usuall A zone, and then loose even more money on sub standard starting hands and miss reads

tilting

i always wondered about this term myself.....i consider it to be when you sit at a table and find the villian that just cant win against you....in that case i believe you have that player on tilt....and anytime hes in the pot you should be in too.....

tiliting? It means nothing..
But if you mean TILTING, that isnt good thing, you play badly and raise / push all in with rubbish hands and try stupid bluffs.
Often when you are on tilt, you are angry and you shouldn't play poker when you are on tilt.

There is an article on wikipedia that goes over tilting very well. If you have any questions on it, it should be able to answer them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilt_(poker) Hope that clears up some of the questions people are having.

Definition of tilt is any diviation from you A-game.
Tilt comes in many forms and shapes,
There is fancy play tilt where u try to make unecesery and complex plays where they aint needed, there is aggro tilt where u start trying to push villain of every single hand, there is loose passive tilt where u start playing to many hands and check/calling every street, there is auto tilt where u just go through the motions with out thinking the hand through and ect. ect.....

letting others get to you when you have made a bad play and it starts to effect your game..... We all have done it, making bad plays, but the secrret is to not let it effect your game. If it does be smart enough to know yourself and get out of the game.

its like when you tip a pinball machine when the balls arent going your way. and the pinball machine says tilt tilt tilt. then you add more quarters and play again and the balls still dont go your way so you tilt the machine again. being frustrated you continue to tilt the machine and maybe kick it a couple times. hopefully u get kicked out the arcade b4 you run outta quarters. like in poker when your tilted hopefully you can leave b4 you run outta money

I would say titling is taking chances and relying on luck rather than skill.

Not really....thats how some people always play, lol.

But really...Usually it comes after a big loss or if you're on a big downswing. Its really anything that makes you not focus on your game and make bad decisions. Heck your wife/gf *****ing at you can even put you on tilt.

You will know it when you see it. It's funny but I bet all player can recall their own tilt. Can give the table a few laughs as well as a few chips.

You hear all the time Poker is mostly skill. Well, learning to control your own tilt is a skill that isn't really addressed as nearly enough as it should. The more I play and more I start to understand that there are so many issues besides playing your hand 'correctly.' Controlling tilt is definately one of them. Playing in a long MTT will definately test you. Taking beat after beat to Bingo players so continuely suck out will put a strain on your mental facilities like no other. How you react will have a great effect on your stack, in some cases more so than the cards you are playing.
