I am wondering what stakes would be doable with a $20 deposit on carbon poker? Also, just for fun, who do you think would win in a real life poker match: a veteran real life player who has many tournament wins or an online player who has played many more games but has less face to face experience?

I guess the real question is, does the increased amount of hands you see online outweigh the lack of development in the art of reading people's facial expressions?

I like to double or nothings if you want to be aggressive about it.

Second, seems to me like two totally separate games and it all depends on the person. Case by case if you ask me.

Good luck!

PS - I believe carbon is running "Frosty freerolls" $300 each. I believe its 10 points to buy in, so you may be able to utilize this in your quest to build up that 20.

The points to enter the Frosty Free-rolls are gained by playing in real money games, correct?

Yeah I play on Carbon. If you play enough money games you can register for the December Frosty freerolls!

On Saturday we have another NLHE freeroll on Carbon. I cashed in Thursday's Frosty freeroll and made $5 (it was a $300 guaranteed prize pool). That's like 25% of your deposit if my math is right LOL. (I'm terrible at math)

So yeah definitely play some games and register for the freerolls when they come. I agree & recommend any of the micro stake games. Find out which one are your favorite ones to play.

Keep within your bankroll & good luck out there on Carbon!

I think it depends on your level also. If you are a new player, learning, 0.01-0.02 are mandatory. Cheap experience, and you learn from the various mistakes you face (yours and of other players). If you know what you do, i would try something more. If everything goes wrong and you are just unlucky, you deposit again.

With a $20 deposit, look for the lowest stake.

Second, definitely the veteran real life player will eat the online player in a real life poker game.

Oh I forgot to read the 2nd part of your question. Sorry!
---
I believe an online player definitely has an edge over a live player if they are equally skilled. If a live player never played online they will be in for a surprise at the difference. Online you can play multiple tables at once, the volume of hands you see are WAY MORE, people use HUDs to see the stats of others (TAGs, LAGs, rock/nits and etc.) Also HUDs are like "gameshark" mode. A lot of the HUDs can show you your win odd% pot odd% all of your outs INSTANTLY. It takes a lot of the guesswork out for you. Plus there's no LIVE tells online.

Live & online are two completely different realms IMO. It would take some adjusting if you never played online. Carbon has a free HUD. It's actually really good IMO and it's F-R-E-E. Since you only have a $20 bankroll. I dunno if you're tight on money, but Carbon's poker odds calculator is legit for its free price. It EVEN tells you if your hole cards are EV+ lol.

It's really great to finally have people to ask poker questions to!

Thank you everyone for your input, I will be depositing this weekend and playing micro stakes to test the waters.

@ Sil3ntness- That's what I was thinking too, that the sheer volume of hands and situations that an online player sees would give them an edge.

25.00 I would play 10-25 cent rooms. if not comfortable at that level go with 05-10 cent.

you can play 1 - 2 cent rooms but unless is a top that can be all in fest depending and I try not to play that way is not good for my game.
