So recently I found out you should never open limp. Im pretty much a newbie at serious poker though ive played for a while

What else should you always or never do?

I know in poker you cant generalize but just some basics other than fold bad hands and play good.... lol

One thing I would like some tips on is blind play

No matter how bad you are, your not as good as you think, so early in your playing career look for reasons to fold, then pay attention to what's happening at the table.

Don't eat yellow snow.

Welcome to the forum, fine place to learn the game & meet some fine folks along the way.

Good luck.

i can only echo themost important tip of dont eat yellow snow , other than that dont be tempted to complete the small blind because your getting great odds on your j4 , and get your mental game straight , dont get too emotional about poker and losing , its likely youll lose a lot of money before you start to win lots , this is not n easy way to make money for most people , accept this and remember its a game and like all games it takes time and study and flying time to get good ,dont go dreaming of playing the big game at the bellagio with Phil Ivey et al ,yes its possible its also unlikely in the same way that beating Wlad Klitchko is unlikely ..its possible ...but highly improbable ,other than that try to enjoy poker if you do that you will have better chance of improving , i see so many kids take this waaay to seriously and are pros in their heads before theyve even played in a casino before ..have fun ,enjoy yourself and the rest will follow

It simply requires adding money bets and peeking at your next card

Books are great to help you get started, but the authors aren't always going to give good advice. I was looking at a poker book today and the author gave this tournament situation where the Hero had 4.5BB UTG with AKs 8-handed, blinds were high, there were 16 remaining and 5 got paid.

The author actually stated not to go all-in and only to min-raise, which I strongly disagree with. ICM isn't a consideration here because you aren't going to fold your way to the money, you've already got one foot in the grave and you're nowhere near the bubble.

He also gave no consideration at all to the likely scenario of getting one or more callers then missing the flop completely, what are you going to do on a Q98 flop in a 3- or 4-way pot with only 2.5BB behind and the blinds hitting you on the next hand, check/fold?

I've read numerous books on everything from home remodeling to auto repair that had glaring errors in them, the best instructor is usually experience.

Its not about giving "good" advice, its about giving +EV advice. Thats why any book that presents a more analytical/mathematical/theoretical approach is way more valuable than a one that simply has a set of fixed strategies, hand charts or other bs.
