I mean:

A guy with a great hand after the flop who checks, then just call a small bet, then checks again, never raises....you know what I mean.

I have found guys like these frequently recently. Today, A guy with a Straight right with with Flop, Slow played until the end. I had 2 pairs (10 and 8) He acted first, with the river he checks again and I raised to 250$ (blinds were 50$) and he called,...of course winning.

If you find that the same person does this over and over. Don't bet into him until you have the nuts. Let's say you have that 2 pair again with the straight possible on the board, don't bet. If you improve to your boat, then bet, and he may probably still call you. Otherwise, he loves what he has...he doesn't even have to do anything and you are sweetening the pot up for him. Don't do this against all players by any means, but someone like this, it would work.

^^that's pretty good advice, its usually better if you've got something good to at least try to bet it out. it's a strategy he's playing he'll eventually regret and move away from. unless you've flopped something astronomical, and a straight just isn't that, he should be making you pay to keep hanging out

oh, and to add to this...you'll see that sort of play pretty common in freerolls and cheap sng's. i've fallen victim to it...best thing to do is just not worry about it

You see this a lot in big tournaments as well. This is actually the same thing that happened in the '88 wsop with Johnny Chan and Eric Seidel. Chan flopped the straight and called Seidel down to the river where he won straight vs. top pair. Actually, this hand is in the movie Rounders as well, lol

Utilizing two concepts should minimize your losses in these situations:

1. Pot Control (checking behind on streets in order to reduce total pot)
2. Putting Opponents on a Range (determine what your opponents would have according to their actions)

I have to agree with this guy...those ppl are usually conservative players , if they call they must have something , if they call once check it unless you got the nuts.

I think right here s a case that you have to try to know the player if they are doing this repeatedly then you have to change you style of play and stop betting into them and thus giveing away your chips/money. If there in a hand with you maybe yoy dont bet so much or even check to see what they will do next alot of trimes if u dont bet with a check caller they will the next time.
