Starting with a small bankroll and willing to grind what game type do you think is best? I lean cash just because blinds never go up so you don’t have to worry about being blinded out but tournaments also offer really good value what have y’all had success with?

It's best to play those games where you can show your best game.

Definitely cash games. There is WAY less variance in cash games than in tournaments and also the cash game play is more straightforward, as you are always deep stacked, whereas in tournaments you need to differ your play based on the stage of the tournament and also on the stack depth.

I assume you are a beginner so the best thing for you will be to stick to cash games. Given your limited bankroll this will be the best option I am sure.

Even if you dont plan to be a cash player in the future, learning the basics will be definitely better in cash games. Im basically doing the same. I dont know yet if I want to settle for cash games or proceed to play tournaments some day, but I need to learn A LOT before I become a decent player and cash games are the best for this.

You can find many valuable information about cash games, strategy, and other things in the cash games subforum here on CardsChat. There are many cash journals /including mine/ which can help you develop your game.

GL at the tables and dont give up! :)

Cash at the micros is a waste of time IMO. Play SitNGo. Though what exactly is your BR?

I personally prefer tournaments huge scores from small buy in to play for and all the extra dynamics that come in to play with blinds and antes rising variance can be high though, but cash is a grind you have to risk big to win big and can become boring when on downswing unless you are the extremely patient type good luck.

CashGames

Cash games imo are better because it is more basic poker, I can concentrate on the math of the game and outs etc. Tournaments require more of a strategy where one must vary due to blind sizes, stage of tourney. I think it's easier in cash to concentrate on the basics in order to build a solid foundation.

You do you. I'd suggest you find the answer on your own. Try them both, see which you're more comfortable with, which one you make the better plays.

I'm personally more comfortable with cash games, because I can quit whenever I want, I only have to use one type of strategy, while in tournaments, your strategy vary according to how many players on the table, how deep stacked you and the villains are.

Cash games arr better if you want to play a fixed amount of time. Mtts might take over ten hours to finish them so this might influence your decision.

For payouts I think tournaments are higher and cash games take longer to build.

Cash games have an advantage, because the variance is less than in tournaments. So if you want stability, then play cash games.
The question of time is very important. If you can afford to play only 2-4 hours a day, then cash games for you will be optimal. Well, if you have 5-10 hours of time every day, you can choose tournaments.

If you chose to quick reply it just replies the text you written down in the text box into the thread.

If you choose to go advanced you can edit the text, like changing color, size, or other fancy stuff. Its better to go advanced if you want to make your post structured.

I am not a native speaker but the plural form of Reply should be Replies :puke:

Small BR grind

Hi there,

i would recommend small field sit and gos like a 90 man field at either 50c or $1 stakes, try a number of those (say 20) and see how that goes for you..this type of set up is a good lead into longer MTT grinding in tournaments..

Let me know how you get on

Regards

rakes can be tough to beat, the rake on tournaments is higher. That being said I find the skill level for tournaments to be lower since most have trouble adjusting to the clock. Maybe I'm just naturally more talented at tournaments

1. If you are a beginner, you have no bankroll, only a budget. Budget is for learning.
So if you choose cash, you pay for learning with blinds.
If you choose tournaments, you can learn for free, playing freerolls.

2. When you are consistently winning player, only then you can plan bankroll.

Cash is king for grinding. However, getting good at one kind of tourny and playing over and over can be profitable. Have you tried heads up or bounty?

I like tournaments best now that I’ve been playing for so many years. I know what it’s going to cost me sitting down and I know what I need to accomplish at every blind in order to get to the money
Cash is best to gain basic knowledge and experience and then tournaments are where you need to learn more strategy.

if you have a tiny bankroll i suggest you to start with STT's which begin with a 10 or 50 cent buy-in, have almost the same variance as cash games & you can also play looser to learn the game better & never get bored

Well I'm conservative so I play only MTT's and I don't spend too much money with poker because I'm a simple poor guy that have no conditions to play cash game.
