It depends on what you are playing, but first and foremost, play at your level. If you are learning, you need to be playing the micros and starting at the bottom. You need to be able to beat .01/.02 and .50 tournaments before you move up. Don't skip levels.

Next, I think the biggest mistake people make is playing too long in cash games. You are going to take bad beats. You don't want to take one where you just 4x your buy-in. Learn to take wins and switch tables.

Depends on your bankroll and what stakes you play.Of course you have to play from the bottom to see your game and there you decide to rise or stay.

You should start playing smaller stakes and see how you do there and if you do well you could move up in stakes.

You must make good management of your bankroll by playing at least 100 times the value of the buy-in of the poker you play. For example, if you are to play sng 0.25 you have to have at least 25 dollars in hands. If you want to raise to 0.50, $ 50 and so on. Once you have lowered this value, you will have to lower the buy in.

When I game, I be sure to observe the following rules (applies to tournaments, as the game in the SNG, mainly, but you can easily adapt for cash games):

1 - The first deposit to play tournaments, which are trying to master (in my case the SNG at the one table), at the minimum buy-in.
2 - When you realize that you can climb in stakes, your bankroll should be at least 10 buy-in of the next level. If your bankroll is only 10 buy-in of the next level - you can participate in a tournament to rate this game at a higher level, but in the case of loss - back to the lower level and replenish the bankroll.
3 - Always, when your bankroll is less than 10 buy-in - come back to the level below, to train and fill bankroll.

By following these rules is not tricky, I'm playing for two years once made a deposit of $ 10. and though my bankroll has never exceeded $ 200, I took off for the time funds totaling $ 150, and now support level a bankroll at around $ 100.
I understand that someone, these amounts may seem ridiculous, but for to start from scratch, it seems to me, is not so bad. Still ahead. After all - is a hobby in their spare time. Although engaged in this hobby I try seriously.

Stick to the 1/2c tables and .25-.50 MTT's until you feel you have enough to move to the next level, preferably 50 buy ins at next level min.

If you have built your bankroll at freeroll here at your discretion. You can start with the micro-limits for cash or in tournaments with a small Bain. Lost is not terrible. Go back to the freerolls. In brief play where you are comfortable.

YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY POKER!!!
Only after these you can do your first deposit.
You need to choose a fair Poker room.
You have to control your greed.
You must be active.
You must understand that each bankroll has its limits.
Good luck!
