I try that one time in MTT live main event tourney. I can't see clearly my opponent's gesture and facial reaction. And even the cards especially clubs and spades..the color of chips denomination.. :)

so they can't see your eyes. but more importantly, to help reduce glare from the overhead lights in poker rooms, they are so bright!

I'm afraid, one with glasses is less able to see other's faces in detail as much as without them.

i think they help you study someone without making them uncomfortable, but if they are hindering your vision then its best to go without

I think pros are more worried about the lights than anything.

They are a waste of time, what better way is there to give false tells to your opponents, let them think you have tells.

there are no do's and don'ts really. If you wanna use glasses theres no rules against it, plenty of players have won wsop events wearing them. It makes close to no differance really.

but yes, it's mainly for the bright lights in some casinos. I remember playing a live event and we played for around 9 hours the first day, the lights were that bright that i had headaches all night, i played the next day without glasses, but if i had a pair i would have worn them off and on to help with glare. Other casinos will not be as well lit, but alot of them are. I think people would build up a resistance to them if they played a ton in casinos Ex. Phil ivey. so that would explain why they don't do it.

As far as concealing tells i really don't think it does anything at all unless a fish is being obvious with where he is looking during a hand or something.

The reason for wearing glasses is to observe your opponents without their knowledge. When people are aware that you are staring at them, looking at their every move for tells they tend to make an effort to hide their tells. It is much easier to spot tells when players are not aware of where you are looking. An added benefit is hiding some of your own face but that is only a secondary reason in my opinion.

imo, the #1 advantage of shades:

Opponents can't see where you are looking.

Defensive - Eyes give out a lot of information unless you have practiced poker face a lot.
Offensive - Easier to observe others

As for the visibility issue, use reflective glasses that are not too dark and you will be fine.

Some people believe that the eyes are a window into your soul, and it is very hard to hide what you are really feeling, so they wear glasses to hide this and not let opponents get a read on them
