I know have a br of around $200+ and wondering what to do next. I am obviously going to play tournaments because that is what I enjoy studying and playing the most. What should my buy-in range be for mtts and sngs? Should I also try staking? I am just wanting to figure out the best way for my money to work for me.

My bankroll is $150 and atm I'm playing $3 sit and go's... works well for me, I got 50 buy-ins -so even if I have a big downswing it doesn't matter, just keep on grinding away........... maybe for you look to play $4-$5 buy-in sit and go's .. drop down to $3 sit and go's if you feel you need to...

For what I'm doing, I have about $20-30 on several sites as base deposit. I play free rolls where I can usually place in the money to supplement that. I am good enough at the 50 cent satellites on 888 to make the final table and usually win an entry here and there. From these entries I then can place in the money at least once every 8 times in the target tournament which at least triples the baseline deposit.

I've been withdrawing funds that exceed $100 which is a mistake because of the commissions paid for currency exchange and the fees charged by the finance carrier. If you do anything similar then scale your bankroll accordingly and only transfer funds when you need to.

I hope this helps.

make a deposit to party poker 10$ and start to play cent rolls, so you have 1000 changes to win a ticket... if you twice will win a ticket for 5.50, you have already in +...

What the people use to say you should have at least 20 times buy in. So you can buy in for $10 but if you loose the first you already have to go down in limit. I think $3-4 buyin is to recomen to start with

Good Luck

The 'what people say' is not for MTT, but for cash game.
For MTT the typical agressive number is 100buyIn, and 600buyIn as conservative.

I think that you can play sit and go's between 2$ and 4$ usd. Above these values is a high risk, because is possible do you be some bad sessions and you can lose more than 50% of your bankroll.

I would register the $1-$3 tournaments, but take a shot at a $5-$10 tournament on sundays if you find a good tournament. Just be careful when taking shots at the bigger tournaments. Enter them with the mindset of "I've been playing well this week so I'll give this a shot". Don't rage register when you are on a downswing, trying to chase lost profits. If you find yourself not cashing tournaments, go down in stakes, not up.

I've seen the most common buy in range to be 1:100 for MTT's, so if you're up to $200 then I'd consider $1-$2 buy-ins. If you're moving up from the smaller stakes I'd try small increments to make sure you're still making money consistently.

So, the standard for mtts is 100 buyins? That sounds a little high imo.

$2 buy in sound right. Maybe treat yourself to a $5 once a week or once a month if you had an extraordinary week or month.

Such a small advice
If you play at pokerstars, make yourself a block of higher buy-ins than you have set and block the casino games. If you play at Party Poker, keep most of the roll on the external internet wallet and make a daily deposit limit, because you never know when Mr. tilt knocks on the door (usually after a few badbeats he goes to the door).
Good luck

Actually, 100 is the minimum advised, with 200 to be used if there is a 'large field'.
But, every player choses their own numbers.;)

You should play whatever you feel like, but keeping in mind that you may experience variance. Taking this in consideration, I would recommend you to play at most 1 dollar tourneys, so that you have 200 buy-ins and are able to cope with a big downswing

If you are playing SNGs you should be good with a maximum buy-in of $3.
For tourneys you should buy in for less, 1% is good for some conservative brm.
But you also will need to see how you develop in these levels. If you are constantly loosing, then you should definitely level down some with the buy-ins.

Thank you for all the advice. Being a US player, I only play at ACR. I am mostly interested in playing turbo sngs, reg and turbo mtts(I prefer the ones with at least 5k starting chips) and I am also interested in some low limit plo8 cash games.
