Hello Cardschat I'm new to the community and could use some advice. Im a US player that has not played online since Black Friday. I have decided to make my first (hopefully also the last) $40 deposit at Bovada because of the reviews of traffic on the SnGs. My Question is what limits do you guys think i should start with on the SnGs with only a $40 dollar bank roll.

For a little back ground i was a winning player on pokerstars but I mainly played for fun and did not have a good bank roll management. This time I plan on focusing on bankroll management and trying to make a little extra money playing 10-15 hours a week.

Thanks guys and I'm glad i found this site.

With only a 40$ br I'd say it will take hitting a streak out the gate to get you going to build a more comfy br to not go bust. If I recall the lowest stt they have is 3$ which gives you 13 buyins, they also have a 1$ 45 man i think, but very limited with only a 40$ br.

I'd say your only option really in any incliment of brm, and a poor one at that, would be the 1$ 45mans or 3$ sng's.

On finding this site, you are a step ahead already congrats and Welcome to the Forum we are always happy to have new members joining :D

Welcome to the site and good luck in your poker career..

As bluff said $40 is a small bankroll for SnG's so just find the lowest buyins you can and play and learn. You might go broke, a lot people do when they start but you are gaining experience and that's what it's all about.

There are plenty of people on CC who can help, just ask.

Books will tell you at least 100BB=BR. So with your $40, buyin of .4 and below is appropriate. 0.5 is still good though.

I was thinking the same thing. I was looking at the Triple your money $3.30 games, if i can cash in 5 out of 12 games i will make a profit of $5. Before Black Friday i would say this would be an easy goal but from what I have read in the threads this is not as easy anymore. I guess only the good players are still online :) What are your thoughts on that and do you think i should look into learning more of a cash game strategy with this kind of bankroll?

steveiam
The $40 will probably not be my last deposit, long as I buy the boss (my wife ) something nice too. I just really want to focus this time around on profiting from playing not just having fun. So rebuying is an option but with that being said I will be taking any lose as a learning experience and try to build from that. Thanks for the good advice.

Thanks agin...

Bovada does have $1.10 9 man SnGs. I'd stick with these for a while to build up your roll and get use to playing online again. Good luck.

I would say that you can play 1$ 45 man SNGs with that small bankroll if you are good enough you can win some good money there. Good luck at the tables!

Thats an awesome idea, Im looking at the $1.10 9 man games and they are super turbo. I don't mind turbo but i don't know if I'm ready for SUPER turbo j/k. Thanks for the heads up on that. I just made my first deposit this after noon. It was a lot of hoops that i had to jump threw. I had to go to 5 different stores till I found a netspend visa card and yes i used the online store finder. Anyways can't wait to see how tonight go's. I will probably take it easy and play a few of the $1.10 9m maybe 45m SnGs and 1 or 2 $3.30 triple or nothing SnGs. Depending on if I go out drinking with my buddy or not. If I do go out I will be sticking to my golden rule that I have payed heavily to learn...No Playing Poker After Drinking.

Thanks agin for all the great replies. If any one cares I will post back after I go broke :)

Since you seem willing to deposit more, your BR isn't really $40. It's the total amount you're willing / able to use for poker no matter that part of it is still in your pocket. That said, you should probably start at the lowest buyin level anyway in order to see how well or poorly your probably rusty game stands up. If you find you're still a solid winner, you can move up to the next level if your total BR allows you to do so within reasonable BRM guidelines. Rinse, lather and repeat as appropriate.

Thanks for the quick responds and good advice from every one.

I just wanted to post a quick update. So I broke my golden rule last night and drank a couple of beers(Around 16-17) before playing. I was just so excited to be playing online agin I did not care if I lost my first 9man SnG $1.10 buy in. However I won for an amazing $4.somthing. I lost the 2nd one but played a $3.3 triple or nothing game and made the money in that also. So I'm up $8 after the first night playing only 3 games. I would say that is an amazing start and I could not ask for to much more considering my situation.

Thanks agin every one at CC and see you around the community

Day two is not going as good. Im going to blame it on the hangover. I have played 4 $3.30 SnGs and 2 $1.10 lost all of them. Im going to take a break and regroup. Maybe have some beers, that seemed to surprisingly work. Na

witnout bankroll managment, you very quickly lose all , be careful , for SNG BI $3.30 you need how minimum 40BI ($130) , this who beat limit and shows a good game , but for comfortable game 100 BI ($330 )...necessarily!!

I would play between 1 and 2 dollar buyins and deposit once a month and see how it goes.

Welcome here. I am (was) in the same boat, having taken a break since BF. Agree that if your roll is $40, your options at Bovada are seriously limited. The $1.10 BI at Bovada are turbo for sure and I agree with you on being wary. If possible, get to Carbon and play the $1 "double or nothing" SNG. If you're a T/A player, these are a great way to build your bankroll. Otherwise, invest your time in the Bovada (Carbon) freerolls and try to build up some BR that way. Best of luck to you on your journey ;)

Little update:
I have been playing every day for a couple of hours and really took a beating trying to figure the game out agin. I was getting a little crazy over the weekend chasing the money i had lost playing Omaha .02/.05 and a couple MTT 2.20 re-buys. Managed to get my bank roll down to $2.37.... So the next day I decided to play two $1.10 SnGs and pray :) Well the praying payed off and my bank roll is back up to $20.37. I learned a valuable lesson not to chase my losses online. I was looking at it all wrong, trying to get my money back in a fast way potting omaha hands and hopping to get lucky was not the way to become a wining player. Stick to what you know and grind it out( just like every one said lol) is the way to go. Hopefully I can recoup and grind back up and never look back.
Thanks CC

Update: just took down a little MTT feels good. That cash put me into profit. I have found my self playing in the .02/.05 cash games and not doing to good. I always end up loosing the winnings I have made playing in the 1.10 SnGs. Im going to search for some good strategies for playing the cash games at micro stakes but if any one could point me to a good article or have one that helped them out I would appreciate a link.
Thanks

Start at the bottom until you are confident that you have a plus EV at that level and build up a large bankroll, then move up one level, and so on.

Ok Cardschat I could use some more advice. So far every ones advice has been spot on and I'm loving it, so thank you. However I ran into a nasty problem. From playing the micro $1 & $2 SnGs & MTT's I have built my bank roll up to $250. That is amazing so far and could not be happier with myself. Yesterday I decided to take it up a notch playing the $3 SnGs. I have played and won a couple before so I was not to worried about it. Well I lost every game, dropped back down to the $1 and lost every game. Played some cash games(something new I'm trying to learn) and lost every game. Ok you see where I'm going with this, I lost a lot. I did cash in a couple but maybe 3rd place and doubled my money in one cash game. Leaving me with a cool $224.67. I should also note most of the wins come from deep runs in MTT.
Now my Questions
1)I know dropping back down level is the right thing to do but I still would have over 100 buy ins for the $1 level. Do I keep playing the $1 games till I get to the $300 and then play $3 games? If this is the right move what happens at $285 do I drop back down to $1 games?
2) What is the best advice or rules to stop the bleeding on loosing days? I think I'm a wining player I just keep getting pooped on with set over set, stuff like that.
3) Does any one use guide lines wen going into a session? Such as if you don't cash in the first 3 games don't play any more for a couple of hours/the day.
4) Should I stick to one type of game only? SnGs/MTT or Cash/Ring games

Imo you should switch over the the 2.20 mtt I hated the sng and the fact that they were more luck based I dont set any standards as to what im gonna lose...most of the time I open up two tables that way if im doing crappy on one I do a decent amout better on the other one luck wise and it works hope ibhelped a bit :)

This is exactly what I was thinking last night, sticking to the 2.20 MTT. I think Im playing to many games (I was playing 4 at a time) and need to focus back on the basics so I can get reads off of people. I just don't want to get board. Thanks for the advice.
