It is Independent Chip Model, widely used at late stages for MTT/SNG for deciding whether to shove or to fold.

it helps you with preflop shoving in or out position. Given that your 2 whole cards is model to be disguised as the best hand. If you can be consistent on doing it against your opponents when the stacks are shallow, say around 15-20bb's, the value of shoving a hand all in, example: an ace rag, king high,or suited connector is more profitable on the risk, rather than just flatting and losing your chance of winning a pot. it Displays consistency and gives you an edge to being the aggressor on the table. you should only be shoving when it is either short handed 3-6players and use during when your on the button, or if your on a small blind and only you and big blind are in a hand, or on the other case when there are limpers and you can raise to get em to fold.

ICM=way cash players can feel comfy in a MTT. HA. I kid I kid. But no, in all honesty ICM really is not essential. I never care for it. It basically, is just taking your tourney chips and giving them a value based on prize pool, chips in play, places paid etc. Here you go. http://www.thepokerbank.com/strategy/tournament/icm/what/

Independent Chip Model(ICM) is used to calculate and assign players equity in a tournament based on the stacks.

When people say, "did you consider your ICM implications before making your decision ?", what that usually means is that there is an level of disparity as you get deeper into the tournament between how many tournament chips you have and the actual value of those chips. At the start of the tournament it is 4:1 if you buyin a 1000 $ buyin tournament with a starting stack of 4000 T chips and this disparity becomes larger when you have money bubbles or large pay jumps.

All of a sudden your chips and having them - has an increased amount of value in being alive in the tournament. That's why in those pay jump or money bubble stages it is okay to make a move and "shove all in" with your chips but it is NOT okay to "call all in" for your chips if you'd risk elimination it would mean not collecting that payout, even sometimes though the move would be profitable in terms of accumulating more tournament chips. thanks Mr. Dunst.
