Not sure if its true but I read his story and... evidently he turned 50.00 or so into millions playing online poker within just a few years.

Did he do this simply practicing good BRM?

Whats missing from this equation?

I don't think any BRM came into play until a little later on for him and then diminished as he went to the top(as it does for many pros).

IIRC, he started out with SnG's and was beating them pretty easily when he then decided to switch to cash games because they are more profitable. After a while there then he almost exclusively moved to HU and moved up in stakes.

What's probably the biggest thing missing between Tom and you(and the majority of players including myself)? Dedication

Less software/knowledge out there back in those days which helped him in some way.He puts in the dedication to learn the game and grind 100x. He surrounded himself with top players.

On a side note, i find myself really disliking Durr... and no it's not cos he's successful..

I find him smug and arrogant (which is different to confident), and smarmy....
He's got one of those faces you just want to punch.

Durrrr plays more hands than 99.9 percent of people and I bet he is always learning and improving his game.

This is what he knows...

That they're playing with scared money, and he's not.

I doubt it was overnight success. He may want you to think that; I don't know. But, in all reality I'm sure there was tons and tons and tons of studying, analyzing, more studying, and much, much, much playing. Over-night success is usually anything but.

Also, aggression can overcome a lot of difficult situations. Make that "educated aggression".....

Haha i totally agree, I'm not a big fan of him either. it's pretty amazing though, everybody in the world knows he is bluffing and he still gets people to fold.

I'll never forget that huge bluff to Ivey. Ivey sat on it so long that Durr started to cry. If only Ivey had noticed.

When asked about it later, he said it was the TV lights... Ha :)

The guy is an exception in that he can get away without the kind of BRM as the vast majority of players. He has a ton more talent. He's constantly working on his game - probably a lot more than most - and in this regard, he has access to other top players' opinions. He seems to have no fear of losing his money, so that never keeps him from making what he considers the best play in any given situation.

I also think he can be looser with his roll because he has access to loans and also to people who will happily stake him, especially if he drops down to levels he can crush, and where he can still win more in a hand than many of us have ever won in a year.

I always thought he looks totally clueless - which I am sure has served him well.

Think about it - he always looks like he's in over his head, like he's nervous, as someone else mentioned - sometimes on the verge of tears.

His face and demeanor looks like, "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god..." How the hell he gets away with bluffs is amazing.
