Hi All,

I would be interested in your opinions on the the qualities you feel are needed in a poker coach?

What skills and attributes would you want from someone to make you a better player?

Would you or have you ever paid for coaching and what motivated you to do that?

Be good to read your comments on this?

Regards

Hi Terry,

yes i get what you are saying - in terms of personal development though, there are players in poker and all sports who play for the love of the game but never improve, i often smile when i see mega rich Chinese guys play at my local casino..many cannot play the game well and could really benefit from some advice and coaching but as they can afford to lose, they are gambling as opposed to just playing poker well.

Sometimes also its a personal pride thing, accepting help or asking for it - even looking for it - is a massive step but one thats crucial if you aspire to be successful or amazing!

This is going to sound horrible, but I would want someone who is a compulsive gambler, or who has some other major problem. You want someone who has all the skill you need to develop, but there is just something about them that keeps them from becoming a winning player. So the formula would be, Massive amounts of skill + a personal flaw which explains why they aren't rich enough to not be in the situation of needing to be paid to be a coach.

That's an interesting take... you're probably right. They can see how to fix others but not themselves. I've heard they saying, "those who cannot do, teach". In any case, I've always just assumed coaches were active players as well, and were coaching to help less experienced players who are on the rise.

I think that the coach needs to explain clearly the tips and if possible play together with the learning guys.

There are many coaches who actually crush the game. Take Jon Van Fleet for example (aka Apestyles).. Profit of $1.8million just on partypoker alone but has over $10 million in online cashes.

He is still offering private coaching at $500 for 90min. sessions.

fwiw, most online crushers don't retire to Hawaii.. where they'd be unable to play online poker. Pretty sure mexico & Central America are the popular destinations as well as other locales in Europe, Scandinavia & even Russia.

There are many more online poker coaches who charge much less but are also excellent. Many do so because they enjoy coaching & are very good at it... others do it as they choose to continue living in the USA & have placed more of their efforts into coaching vs. playing.

The best sprinting coach in the world isn't the fattest runner. The best MMA fighting coach can't kick the snot out of even the Top 100 rated fighters in any weight division. Relaying information & helping one to develop a poker thinking mind doesn't necessarily need to come from a player who is making a ton of money.

Do you guys know of any coaches?

To become a coach, at least you need to be a professional poker player and have success and win in tournaments. In general, I think it's not easy, because it takes a lot of time, effort, and you need to have exceptional abilities to teach some other players.

I would like to note excellent coaching qualities such as: attentiveness to students, trying to find an individual approach to each. Tactful, owns the subject and is able to speak and explain accessible to each language. Understands the mathematics of poker. Not only that - this is a person with whom you can communicate on any topic, is fully developed and can also help you in the psychological aspects of poker.

Hi
As a poker coach ? he should at least be a plus player with experience, preferably known in General circles .. he must have his own system of learning, sociable ..it'll help you sort out your hands ..it is desirable that your trainer trained only you, for the period of training ..
Personally, I did not have a coach ,but I would not refuse to pay such as the above described
