I always thought donks and fish are the same LOL.
They think they can abandon the poker theory, they play almost every hand, they love to gamble and so on...

They make bad decisions like betting into someone heads up when one person is all in and there is no side pot without a hand.

but they aren't really. Fishes and Donks are two different types of species.

Donks=more aggro (with or without a hand) , can make huge calling mistakes and call you down with lowpair no kicker ,A high you name it.
thats why we call them donks.(aka donk off your chips)
when everyone goes all in with anything(DONKAMENT) . this is due to stupid aggression.

Fish are scared. they limp alot.they fold to any aggression . Thats why we call them fish. we give them alittle bait and sometimes they bite but most of the time they run away.
Sharks are what we all wanna be but most of us are not. the agressors, the trappers, the hunters.

I see passive donkey and crazy fish too....

these are different on the luck effect I think...

donkey usually get lucky and will make the whole table on tilt...but fish always pay others....and seldom lucky....

LOL:p

I must agree with vinylspiros. I see donks as the people who cant let go of the hand, the can call you down to the river with the lowest pair. Or they can call an all in bet on the turn with a gutshot straight draw. A fish is kind of like a rock in my opinion. He folds alot and plays only with good hands.

Donks play bad hands to death, but sometimes hit on the river and look good.

Fish play speculative hands to death, but sometimes hit on the river and look good.

Both can be your best ATM.

While the terms are somewhat synonymous as they both refer to weak players, I think of each as being discriptive of a different style of weak player.

donk = too stubborn (like a donkey) to lay down their hand when they should know they are behind
fish = a player (usually inexperienced) that will consistently make questionable and ill-advised plays

I think of the fish as being the player that's going to be extremely active but very passive, trying to limp in and then calling raises with mediocre cards. Their post flop play consists mainly of check/call (not trapping) and check/fold. They will win a pot here or there, but generally tend to spew chips at a somewhat steady rate, until they realize they are far below the average stack. Then they will tighten up and wait for big hands to play. But if they consider hands we fold without a second thought to be playable, then the hands we consider playable, they consider to be monsters. Which means calling 3-bets OOP with Q-10 and the like.

When I think of a donk, I think of the players you see 4-betting all-in pre with K-J suited. I think of them chasing draws or even shoving all-in with them. These players will call off all their chips, as long as they know there is a card in the deck that they can hit without regard to how slim the odds are of that card coming. Because they occasionally will hit their 3 and 4 outers on you, you will never be able to convince them that they are not making smart plays regardless of the amount of statistical data you provide. When they miss their draws, it's because you were lucky. When they hit them, it's because they are good and knew their card was coming. They are too stubborn to be convinced of anything else, which is what makes them donkeys.

In a similar thread in 08' I think on FTR I posted 10 consecutive hands Durrr played where he won some serious coin.

I blurred the names and asked for reviews.

It was unanimous that the winning player was a total Donk and most likely drunk at the time.

So Im thinking it depends on who's eyes the hands are viewed.

There was one guy yesterday who was min raising into big pots then calling large reraises just to get to the river. Would then turn over some rags which more often than not would win the pot.Which needless to say was very annoying.

Honestly I consider them the same. Donkey/fish are just clueless players that love to lose money.

they are yes. i just like to categorise when making notes(color notes). i have a certain color for a fish and a certain color for a donk . both bad players.one is aggro other is passive.

for me a donkey is someone how enter on the pot 90% times, raise and re-raise too much in any position with any hand, is someone how are playing most of the times just for fun! they do not think about the game, about the rules, basically they don´t think, they act, and yes sometimes they collect a lot of chips but at some point, they will loose everything, believe in me! And you can see them on the first, second, third hand, they open the pot every time! Is hard playing against a donkey because you can see them being so lucky, so many time and it is easy enter on a tilt mode. One advice can be, don´t risk too much on first levels of blinds, study the table the moves they make, what hands they play in what position :)
With that said, good luck at the tables. :)

Sometimes everyone makes bonehead plays similar to donks. They make stupid plays regularly. They have no respect for the game. Just want to distract good players and make stupid plays. In the long run, they loose. But, u have to play along until they get busted.

Getting lucky doesn't mean you're a donkey. A donkey is someone who is knowing they are behind, against a tight player, that going to get called, and they push, Or someone who calls off their whole stack on a very weak hand. These are couple examples. I've never seen you do any of these things. Or anything like this.
