I know initially most of the time I what to just take the pot down and want no callers. but when it's high blinds I end up looking for aces and faces with suits. I get chopped down cause I raise 3 1/2 times and then get shoved on fold my K9 suited and call with my AK's, poc A's, KQ suits and off, ect. But, I end up getting rocked cause my better pockets miss his hits or dude called with K10 and his 10 hit killing my A kicker. How can I learn to fold those situations? and how can I learn to call more looser? Yes I am amateur but not a newbie.

I dont understand the question.

are you asking what to do in the small blind when you raise and the big blind reraises?

See if you can find a better way to ask your question.

I think what you're describing is short stacks pushing on your raises when you have a good hand and a decent stack and shorties hit and you miss and end up leaving you with a short stack yourself. Is that correct?

IF that's the case and you're getting called down by weaker hands....YOU WANT THAT. You want action with a better hand. You're not going to fold them are you?? That's just the luck element of tournament poker and there's nothing you can do about that. Folding a great hand b/c you're afraid a short stack will shove with a mediocre hand and hitting....you might as well not even play.

And I wouldn't "call looser" either...unless you have a monster stack and shorty's is 10% or less of your stack. Then maybe your range of hands opens up a bit. Calling off just to try and knock a short stack (especially a nit shorty) will eat your stack up in a heart beat. I'd rather juts play the strong hands and make them get luck you. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't.

You have to compare your stack to the current high blinds.
Thats why we have the so called M, those zones-red zone, orange zone etc.

Selecting steal spots, personality of opponents, table dynamics etc are likewise added considerations.
Goodluck...

First and foremost when the blinds are high stop raising as high as 3.5 times the big blind. As most of the time you will get shoved upon by any pair or premium hands. And why the hell are you raising with K9 anyways. K9 is not a hand my friend, it is a piece of garbage.

Learn the strength of every hand first of all. Secondly learn to make correct plays in different positions, in different blind levels against different oppositions with different stacks. Complex isn't it ?? Welcome to the world of tounament poker.

Thirdly why do you want to call more looser especially when the blinds are high. This is also very bad idea. You can afford to do this when the blinds are low. Try to look for good spots when the blinds are high and either raise small or shove all in. Do away with 3.5x raise.

^agree.
Also when the blinds are that high you should have had time to judge your opponents ranges and how they seem to play.
Judging by the question it seems like you are letting the short stacks run over you.
Why probably because they have studied your type of plays and figure you would fold to a three bet shove,
Also as far as your A/K getting trumped by K/10 and etc etc,
that is just poker,s*** happens all the time.
If I had A nickel for everytime A two outter hit me or I hit A two outter then you know.
I would say that late in a tournament if you really must open with K/9 then I would pick my spots and put them short stacks to the test, but obv one thing you want to avoid is someone else at the table with a dominating chip stack.
I would just honestly suggest focusing on your opponents ranges and style of play A butit more and I think that will help you figure the rest out .

thanks

That was really good advice. I appreciate it. I guess I do let bad beats get to me and that loosens me up throwing me into tilt mode. I will have to work on my emotions and stay tight and aggressive. I missed out on a final table yesterday in a 15000 gtd in bovada cause I got loose on an Ace deuce trying to steal blinds . I could have folded to a reaise over topping mine but I was the one trying to get lucky. I had 200000 going against a bigger stack. I thought he was trying to take my raise so i shoved over top his reraise. He had AK and I went down.
