In Omaha you get dealt 4 cards but you can only EVER use 2 cards from your hand and 3 cards from the board. (Say KKKKA comes up on the board and you have QQ43 you have Kings full of Queens, not four kings). If four clubs come up and you have one club in your hand you don't have a flush because you must have two clubs in your hand (and use the best 3 on the board).

In Hold'em you get dealt 2 cards but can play both, one, or neither depending what comes up on the board. (Say AKQJT comes up and you have 73 you still have an ace-high straight).

As for the differences in play in hold'em it is more difficult to make a hand - Omaha you are essentially playing six hold'em hands with each hand (multiply that by 6 or 9 players and you will can see why the winning hand is often close to 'the nuts' a lot of the time).

Definitely practice on play money tables before playing for real money!

Good luck to you! :D

Omaha is a wicked game...the draws are huge and the disappointment agonizing.

I think pot limit omaha and no limit hold em are similar games. In Omaha you get 4 hole cards instead of 2 you must use exactly 2 cards from your hand and 3 from the board and the betting is pot limit. No limit hold em you get two cards you could use one or both hole cards or you could use the board only and betting is no limit.

I love Omaha. Every hand looks like the greatest hand ever and then you realize that you have the worst hand at the table

Exactly, because of the number of potential combinations, it is really important to be drawing to the nuts rather than non-nutted hands.
I learnt the hard way how often the king-high flush is no good on an unpaired board due to so many people playing double-suited hands

difference is there more chances of winning in omaha. Also omaha is tricky to play if you don't know the rules. You have to play 2 of your 4 cards, the only time you play 1 card is with 4 of a kind. Other times you have to play 2 cards in your hand.

NLH is easier but harder to win something. You play 1 or 2 cards in your hand to win something.

Omaha takes time to master so practise with playmoney.

Externally these two games are very similar, and the difference in rules can be described in a few words: to you four cards instead of two are distributed, you need to use exactly two of the pocket cards and three of the general, and the size of rates is limited to the size of the current bank. Despite such similarity, there are important and often imperceptible differences which can cost very much to you if you do not know them. We mark out seven important differences between PLO and NLH which each player has to know:
1. The position has a bigger value.
2. Yours fold is much less than ekvita.
3. On certain wood flopa is a mistake to go in oll-in even with natsy.
4. It is much more boundary decisions.
5. The correct game depends on the sizes of stacks more.
6. Luzovo-passivnaya a game to a flop can be justified.
7. Dispersion is much more.

I think starting hand selection is what greatly helped my results in Omaha. Having 4 cards that can work in some combination is a large advantage over having 3 cards that can work in combo or just two sets of cards. You want to think that you are essentially playing 6 hand possibilities. The more of those possibilities you would not play, the more likely you will be at a disadvantage and should fold.

The other thing to think about is the equity values of hands are closer in plo, ie in nl AA will win much more often than AAxx will win in plo.

In Omaha you usually want to raise because each hand is actually 6 holdem hands. But do not raise to much preflop because flop makes Omaha. Aces are that great in Omaha unless they are double suited then you got yourself a good hand.
