I just ask this.

because, the pros did not explain their thought process when makes big lay down. or hero call.

and besides, the poker table stack size is very hard to see.
the entertainment element in poker is not that enough even compared to CNN news.

therefore

what do you learn from poker TV show, and what part is most useful when watching a poker TV program?

thanks

For me i just watch for entertainment value,, They edit out all the dull stuff and you just watch the most interesting hands. The hero calls and lay downs are generally based on their reads on the table and there playing history with that player. So it's not always based on that particular hand.

Hi !

i do really like to watch Poker TV series just to see new trends and how the best in poker world plays, but ...

1) as a beginner it is almost impossible to implement the tactic or strategy they use as it wont work in lvl I play

2) I am not Phil Ivey so can not pay like him :) ... :(

What i really like is the entertainment and fun part ... I rather watch 3 hours of poker then anything else .... the worth can happens I have fun, The best I can learn something !

So I would say ..watch them for fun and when you have time

Good Luck @TAbles !

TV poker is edited. When the hands to be shown are selected, entertainment value is a much greater factor than educational value. So, there is little if any of the latter, and the hands you see given players play tend not to be very representative of their overall games.

You can see how players at that level play final tables. But don't automatically assume you can apply any part of what you see there to your game unless you normally play at or near that level.

The only TV poker I watch is high stakes cash games played by the top pros.
The money/chips are so far out of my league all I do is use the time for entertainment value especially when you see pots change hands with more money in them than most people earn in a year.
What can you learn?.

I love to watch live online pokerstars (world tournaments - most EPT). It is live and not record TV. Most often it is broadcasting an hour late. Nobody knows how this or that ended distribution. Commentators think aloud. I find it very helpful. I became a better understanding of the opponents in their response to my bids, and the size of their bets. And I then apply styles Gears certain players in your game. And look, I have to fit this strategy. Generally experiment.

You can see how players at that level play final tables.
Right. Before the FT you only see the hands that matter. In the old cash games? Same thing.

But FT in tournament play will help you to understand ...

1. Small stack pushes
2. Large stack bullying.
3. Gear changes
4. The importance of the button raise
5. When a bluff really isn't even a bluff
6. Momentum
... and many other things.

There's this gradual slide from tourney play, to bubble play, to FT play, to the money jump play, to HU play. And it's kinda like watching a horse race. Things start slow, but they end up getting with it.

Try to figure out WHY they are doing what they do - and it usually has less to do with the cards you see than past actions and reads.
