Assuming you are an absolute beginner.
Here is a quick start guide, it is not perfect but you should beat 2nl:
UTG, UTG+1, MP1
Stick with TT+ and AK up front. Raise 4bb to open. If you get 3bet (up to 3.5x your open), call with TT, JJ, QQ & AK. 4 bet 3x or shove all in with AA & KK. If you make TP or better on the flop; bet pot or check raise 3x (your choice). If not check. You can call a SMALL flop bet if you miss, but do not put 1 cent in the pot on the turn without top pair or better. If you do have a big hand on the turn keep betting the pot. If you make it to the river; look to get some value from you hand, but if it is less than top 2 pair, keep it small; check calling is ok. Over-bet shove the nuts if there is any chance you could get called.
MP2, MP3, CO
Bet size for all opens is 3bb.
22+, AK, and any suited Broadway hands. You can call a raise up to 4bb or open to 3bb with any of these hands. You can over limp or call behind up to 4bb with with 45s+ A2s+ (minimum 2 people in the pot before you if there is a raise). With AA & KK always raise or re-raise.
Similar flop and later play to EP.
Button
Similar to playing the mp/co hands, but you may open to steal with any Broadway hands. You can also squeeze with any EP hands.
SB - see the middle position hands. 3bet raises from co and button with AK, and TT+
BB - see SB hands, but also 3bet the SB AK & TT+.
IN GENERAL
With less than trips you want to keep pots smallish.
It is better to reach show down with a strong but not nutty range than stack off.
Checking the turn with hands like TP is often safe and profitable. You can then bet or call smaller amounts on the river with good
equity.
Do not call all in without a very strong hand, chances are you are beat.
If you want to light 3-bet; DONT!
Never chase on a paired board.
Never chase a straight with 3 of 1 suit on the board.
Only chase the nuts, and only if pot
odds are correct or both you and your opponent have at least 3 x the pot left after the bets go in. You NEED to get paid when you continue with a weak hand.
Almost never bluff. if you do, keep it small.
This is a start. It is NOT ideal, but it is fairly safe. There is some deception built in and it is very easy to play.
