Dear friends

Always consider the money that you bear to the table as an investment in the same way as you would if you were buying shares . As someone who is responsible with their money , only comprarias those shares if they promised a good return and had an associated risk acceptable. This is the same concept when you use bankroll management in poker.

Your bankroll will show you where to play limits (ie how high your stakes should be ) so teres an appropriate balance between your desire to ...

... Advance as possible when you win , increasing your bankroll .
... Not too back when you lose and not lose too much of your bankroll .

Nice post, your explanation is very well thought out and completely logical. The way I think of it is simply as playing the correct stakes corresponding to your bankroll, so you can afford to take huge swings

Playing limits that are appropriate for the amount of money you have allocated to your poker activities.

Have about 30 buyins at whatever level to play big bet poker.
Have about 300 big bets at whatever level to play limit poker.

Bank roll management doesn't only apply to poker. It can be applied to any arena where there is risk involved. For example, investing in stocks, starting a business, or gambling in general.

It basically allows you to continue going in case you are struck with "bad luck" or the inherent risk involved in whatever you are doing.

Poker is a high variance game, there fore you must practice proper bank roll management in order to be able to continuously play.

But what is the magic number? I've heard many different numbers. 30 buys? 50 buys? At what point do you lower your stakes? 1/2 NL is the lowest game a casino will spread, are you stuck online at micros until you have $6K? Good post but it's very general. Or does BRM vary from player to player? With all the math involved in poker these days there's should be some hard numbers.

And most important is to keep your life roll separate from your poker roll. Poker rolls can be rebuilt, life rolls are much harder to rebuild and can effect more people in that process.
