What is proper bankroll management and why is it crucial to making money in poker?

Sometimes the cards just don't run well and you can lose 5 games in a row due to variance

Bankroll management is basically playing at games at a certain level so that you won't go broke from a bad losing streak

I think the rule of thumb is to never buy into a game more than 5 or 10% of your entire bankroll

What a great chart man.
I mean lol you should print it and tape next to your putor. When you might get tempted to break from the guild - you'll have a reminder not to.

Limit holdem chart is kinda ridiculous - 300bb? You aren't going to lose as much in limit when you are unlucky you would have to play very badly to lose that much In my opinion..... The tourney buy ins I like and the NLHE seems very conservative but I try to play as little NLHE cash as possible even though sometimes that's my only option on Full Flush - what you have for NLHE would be appropriate for PLO which I think plays much bigger, can prob get away with 60 pct of bankroll for NLHE if you are a good or very good player but being conservative with bankroll management is ok.

The tourney buy ins I like

The tourney buyins listed above are for SnG's (I'd assume STT SNG)... I'd suggest 50 buyins (instead of 40). For tournament play (MTT) you're looking more at 100 to 200 buyins.

and the NLHE seems very conservative
20 buyins for NLHE cash I would think is on the aggressive side. I would think most would want at least 30 buyins.

can prob get away with 60 pct of bankroll for NLHE if you are a good or very good player but being conservative with bankroll management is ok.

I'm not sure what 60 pct. of bankroll for NLHE if you are a good or very good player means?
The typical guidelines for decent BRM are there for good players. (it's not unusual to drop 50+ buyins in tournament play, etc. etc.)

OP there's quite a few threads/posts on the forum regarding Bankroll Management. Maybe try checking out the search feature to see if you can find a few of the better ones? (if you need help, I can search them for you)

I only play MTT and SnG. My rule with very little exception is a minimum of 30 buy ins in my bankroll. If i play a tournament with a buy in too high for my BR, ie: cant afford to lose, it will affect my decisions in the game.

Thank you for the chart. If I can add any advise to new players, stay away from Hypers or other sngs just like it without a bigger bankroll. The variance in these games are very high and your BR needs to be able to take a big downswing.

I like Hyper SnGs. I get paid quicker :D

If you are good at Hypers I would recommend them.
---

Also for BRM. Even if you have a lot of money in your bankroll, don't play limits that you know you can't beat. You will be throwing away money if you play $3/$6 NL just because you can afford it. Learn how to play the cheaper limits first.

I like them as well and probably my favorite game to play. But wrecked my bankroll by not having enough to take in a big downswing as there are a lot of flip situations.

good chart have never followed this at all though haha.

If have 78 bucks will play a 25-50 table haha. So my advice here would be bad but ive always won way up from freerolls never deposited any site. So is not a huge loss if lose some money. Will say try to get to 10 right now on sites and than try a 2-3 buck tourney over getting 5 and doing a 3.50 etc..

right now is strictly pennies for rake:( But will get there but if get 8 sites with like 50 or higher dollars will be playing 10cent 25 cent and sometimes if hot 25 cent 50 cent rooms
