Thanks, Cujo
I ignored MTT's in the video to keep dollar amount where most people could afford it. If you are going to grind MTT's you should buyin for no more than 1% of your BR. Which means if you want to grind $5.50 MTT's you need to have $550 in your BR. If you are going to grind single table SNG's, I suggest 40 to 50 buyins. Which means, if you are playing the $3.40 single table SNG's on stars, you should have a minimum of $136, $170 would be better.
As I said in the video you should see ring as "the bread and butter", focus on ring. Why? Because, you can multi-table ring a lot easier. The blinds don't change, which means you are not worrying about stack sizes as much and you are not worrying about your M or where the bubble is or what the average stack size of the tournament is. You have a lot less to calculate and keep track of when you are playing ring.
Unless you are grinding SNG's it's hard to multi-table tournaments, due to the fact the blind levels will be different between tournaments. The number of players will be different ect. I'm not saying, don't grind SNG's or MTT's, if that's what you want to do, go for it.
Also, things like rakeback and points are more suited for ring games. Until you get up to the high dollar SNG's and tournaments. So you also need to look at how much you have coming in from the promotions.
Like Fulltilts Holiday bonus. If you have $200 in your account, there is no way you will clear that bonus just playing $2 SNG's or whatever. You can clear it playing 10nl or even 5nl though.
So basically, the idea in the video is to grind ring Mon - Fri, for a couple of hours a day. And then play tournaments on the weekends. You could even use Friday as a day to play satty's (they would count like an MTT, 1% rule) and try to satty into bigger tournaments that you aren't rolled for.
As I said in the video, the rules I stated are pretty standard in the world of BRM. You can always deposit a higher amount and use 30 or 50 buyins for ring games and use a lower % for MTT's like .5% if you wanted. The point is to make a plan and to stick to it. Set goals for yourself, know where you are at, and where you want to go.
So to answer your question, yes you will need to deposit more if you are going to play more tournaments. Stick to 1% for MTT's. You need to remember if you go on a bad run of MTT's and you drop yourself below 15 buyins for ring, you are going to have to drop a level when playing ring. So at the minimum I would deposit $350, that will make you rolled for $3 MTT's and give you enough room for 10nl as well.
