Hi, new here. I'm playing the $3 speed SnGs on Party. How many SnGs do I need to play before I have some kind of idea whether I'm profitable at that limit?

I also wouldn't mind having some kind of idea of the average maximum number of buyin/entry fees I can expect to go up and down in a normal cycle. I can redeposit but want to have enough money in there in the first place so I don't have to.

100 games should give you an idea but it could be hundreds more before the results converge to true.

50 buyins for 9 player sng's is a relatively low amount.

Thanks. :) These are 10-player SnGs, so is 50 buyins still a good number? (I'm surprised that I could look to losing 50 buyins in a row at some point before finally placing in the money!)

Are you completly new at poker? If so I suggest reading in tournament section of this forum. It really has helped me out a lot!

Do you mean the tournament part of the forum or the tournament help files listed at the top?

It depends on your skill level relative to the opponents. For example, if you have the ability of a 40% ROI player, you'll know pretty quickly that you're +EV. Otoh, if you're at the barely above breakeven skill level, it will take a lot of games to know that.

Well I've been reading about mtt, sng's, and stt. So imo read anything and everything related to what you want to play. I've been playing for sometime, but am new to the forums as well. There's a lot of great advice on here. Look in the Golden Archive as well. Also try to figure out what game you want to play in. Do you want to just play mainly sng's or cash? If only one, learn about that in particular. Goodluck.

Aside from the buy-in question, I might suggest you NOT play at the speed
tables. When learning to play at any level the more time you have to analyze
a situation the better.

Just my 2¢

On Party, the regular tables are 10-minute blinds, the speed tables are 5-minute blinds and the turbo tables are 3-minute blinds. There is almost no activity at the regular tables, so, if I want to play more than about three SnGs over a 12-hour period, I have to play the speed tables. I find that they don't feel all that rushed, as you get 15 seconds to make a decision with a 40-second time bank if you need extra time. I have yet to feel rushed.

Over about 35 SnGs my VPIP is pushing 40% and my PFR is around 20%, so I think I'm playing far too loosely, but my analysis of the situation is that, when the blinds increase every 5 minutes, a 14/12 player gets blinded out.

Yeah this.

Also note, you have 40/20 you say..which is a huge gap, implying you limp way, way way to much. Limping should be avoided tbh.

Also a 14/8 player as you say, gets blinded out is most likely far from true and actually in fact, more likely playing correctly, tighter early stages, opening up at late stages, shoves in the correct spots etc.

Do you have a link to more information on this?
