You've hit the flop big, for the sake of this extreme example lets say you flop a Straight which is also a flush draw, and a stfl draw. Lets say there are also 2 face cards, which put the flop into almost anyone's range.

You are first to act. Do you see this as a trapping opportunity and thus check, or do you just lead out?

Why?
___________

Historically, I would see this as a trapping opportunity. But recently, at micro stakes, I have tried the leading out approach. Over the years I have read that the 'prescribed' thing to do is to lead out. I am still torn as to whether I lose value by leading out.

In a trapping situation, your opponent will possibly try to steal, or maybe he even hit TPTK or some such and when I check he will bet. Of course I call, with the intention of letting him hang himself.

I should add that I see the bigger benefits of leading out. It helps create a table image that can be useful down the line, but I still wonder whether either is more correct.

I rarely trap. Leading out works for me when I've be active (laggy) because people just don't believe me. Obviously leading out under those circumstances bloats the pot and gets you a bigger payoff.

Ask me 6 months ago I would have probably said trap. Now I rarely trap and generally lead out aggressively in these cases. There's a chance they can hit their flush or higher straight, or even a full house. I'm trying to be more aggressive in poker in general and so I would bet 3/4 or even pot size on each street. Want to either take down the pot right there (assuming there was some re-raise action preflop) or build a nice pot to win when they miss their draw.

Of course last night I flopped the nut straight with no flush draws out there and some guy got a full house on the river after money was all in on flop. But I had to make that move and quite frankly so did they given the odds of getting a full house.

In general I trap more than I lead out. But it is important to mix it up.

I would need to know more information before I can answer the question. How many in the hand .. what limits and how much is already in the pot... cash or tournament, did I raise pre-flop or call ?

depends who has the stronger range, and the frequency in which the opponent is likely to cbet. how many players in hand etc. donking all your strong hands opens you up to a world of hurt exploitation wise.

It would depend on the type of players at the table and my mood. I would most likely lead out, but sometimes I try to trap. I think it's wise to mix things up.

it comes down to your positon, action pre-flop (were you the raiser?), and opponent playing style
