hi all

my tournament play is very decent and i make money when im pacient and have time to play for 8h lol

but my cash games even when im taking it slow i either make it or break it pretty fast...if i make 1.5 times the cash i whent in with i leave and the other half of the time i lose all -.-

so my cash games in my opinion are just not worth the risk since i play better in tournaments and make more money with a bigger investment to payout ratio

shold i just not play cash games?, play cash games very rarely?, or insist on cash games but with lower stakes?

Hi BYOP. For me one day is much different than another. Sometimes I do good at one an not another. Some days I lose at everything I play, and some days I win at both. Just can't figure out what to do. So much of the time I will play a couple of ring games a long with 1 or 2 tournys. But one thing about ring games is that you can leave any time you want to. I never sit there and lose my whole buy in unless I call an all in with a good hand and get beat. But with tournys I have to try and play my best game, and if tournys are your strong point, that is what I would play.

Usually i'm pretty decent at cash games but found tournaments easier today. It's easier to go on tilt in a cash game because once you lost 30% or more of your stack it can really eat at you. Even though in a tournament it still annoys you when you lose a big chunk of your stack, you know that if you do crash out of the tournament it's done and dusted and you start a fresh when you start a new one, unlike in a cash game where anger can carry on into other tables if you don't take a break.

i agree with you GreatLeslie in cash games i tend to go bonkers affter a bad bet while in a tournament i think i can still win it lol

the main reason for my question was becouse i read somewhere that you are supost to play diferent holdm variations to keep your learning curve and your reads on a constante "raise" lol :D
is that true?

If you are doing good on tournments, might as well tick on it then if you have enough bankroll like 1000x the buyin in cash games, you might take a stab from time to time while learning the game.

I prefer tournaments. But that's how I began and learned the game.

Just stick to the game where you are good at.

If you are so bored and have sufficient BR, you can play cash game but at the lowest stake. We want to experience and see the difference between tourney and cash at the cheapest price.

Cash game is where it's at for me! you either win big or you lose big. Playing in a tournament feels safer though, especially when the buy in is the same and will remain the same. However, I find my patience level getting tested each time I play a tournament and when I bust I get a little irritated knowing that I've wasted all that time over one bad move.

The way I see it.... Cash game ( heart and soul and any great foundation for a poker player)

Tournament (Trying to win big *aka for lazy poker players) Cash players will use Tournaments as a bonus.

So in summary cash is important if your looking to play poker long term.. but tournaments if your just casual and win a lump sum every now and again.

Cash

Both are equally beatable IMO. If you suck at cash games, and kick ass at tournaments, you probably do have great potential to kick ass at cash also, but just aren't making the right adjustments.

I prefer cash because I don't like the time constraints of tournaments. I want to start, end, and break my sessions when it suits me.

the diference is in cash games as soon as i get a bad bet and start losing money i just want it back and tilt very easly
that kind of thing also used to happend to me in torunaments but since i could turn it around and end up winning i got really "zen" about in in tournaments and as long as my reads are right i dont lose focus becoue i think i can stil turn it around even when a donk calls my shove pre-flop when i have QQ and he has QT and ends up winning lol -.-

I'm quite new but so far I've found cash games so much easier, I don't know why.

I've donked out of every tournament I've entered so far with zero return.

I played tournaments all day yesterday with no joy, and then in my first cash game I doubled my money in the first 15 minutes. I'm now finding it hard to find a good reason to enter a tournament.

I was originally a cash game player. I do pretty well playing cash IMO.

It's just SO BORING. I feel I'm better at cash game than tournaments, but I can't stand playing cash games for more than a hour. There's no incentive besides the money.

I play tournaments mainly for the thrill of making final table & etc. Cash games, especially full rings it's just fold, fold, fold oh I got a good hand or I'm in dealer position time to take someone's money. Also I don't know why, but sometimes I feel dirty taking someone's money in cash games.

Bad mindset for poker, but meh.

You should then select the game in which you will feel most comfortable. :)

the way i see it cash games requieres timing and luck so you want to catch a bluff or have a better hand than the villian and hope you dont get a donky kick on the river lol and once you have a decent profit you just leave...the longest i have been in the same cash game table was around 1.30h

tournaments is more about beeing pacient and playing well becouse even if you suck out once or twice if your play is solid with good reads you end up prevailing in the long term but it will take much longer so be prepared to play for several hours...the longest i have been in a tournament was around 8h -.-
but i won :p

I've only played some micro buy-in turbo SNGs, and they're always full of maniacs! I can't hack it.

Tournaments take longer, so play mostly cash. More boring, but you can become when you want.
People with a family is difficult to play tournaments for several hours without interruption.
