I don't know if I should play tournaments or cash?

Hey guys,
I have recently come to a point where I don't know whether I should play cash or tournaments. This is the reason. When I play cash I can make a profit (only 2NL) I also had a go at 10NL and made $2 in one hour, not much I know, but I was able to apply pressure and make them fold hands in big pots and win hands too (10NL was actually way more respectable play by the players). I can put people in tricky situations and apply pressure by check-raising and I can fold big hands if I have too, so I would say my post flop is alright. I played a tournament a few days ago and got 5th out of 90 in a 0.25c game. I make it to the bubble half of the time. So I can go alright in tournaments and I have way more fun playing them, although I'm not much of a PF risk taker. I don't tilt as bad in tournaments because my stack is only chips and I can play through coolers easier. What do you guys think I should do? Play a game that I profit at but have more tilting/gambling issues or play a game I have more fun at but may not be as profitable?

Try to start to play tournaments, get experience, then go to the cache of the game. Cash game is harder than in tournaments.

As you said at the end of your question I find cash games more profitable and they can also be fun if you constantly develop your game. Try sit n goes for a sort of mixture of the two

The best way is to test to know which kind of game you feel more comfortable. ;)

I love playing both, I probably play about 50/50 but I would say my tournament play is a lot better

I have been pretty successful at party pokers 1 c tournies . I have one a number of 5.50 ticket which you then enter for 22 dollar and if you win those you play for 109 dollar where I have been making cash is playin out at the bubbles for those 22/109 tickets if their is not enough entries to make another ticket the prizes are cash pulling in 85 or 15 dollars cash on 1 cent. sure if I didn't chicken out I may make a lot more with my 109 dollar ticket and ive tried a few but I cant take the pressure.

If I were you I would stick to tournaments because:

generally alot more fish are attracted to playing tournaments vs. cash (big part of that reason is > cashgames have a higher % of good players in them & it is more difficult).

If you have more fun you will likely put in more time studying that format.

From reading your description of cashgame play, it leads me to believe you might not have a whole lot of experience there.

I think u should be playing tournaments, u said u have more fun in doing that. The game you play is much much better if you feel good and have fun at the same time, especially if you make it the money half of the time :D

Play MTT and then cash games when you only have a limited time. Playing cash will make you a better player because you are playingbetter players.

I love MTT's personally.

I think the best thing is just saving up some money for a decent bankroll, studying the game meanwhile and then just living & learning.

I would never go back to cashgames personally.

Cash games are profitable but can be boring (depends on the player). It is basically a grind.

Some types of tournaments are profitable. I had success in timed tournaments, especially the 15 minutes ones. People have zero understanding of equity in those.

Tournaments is my Choice. Longer playing, losing lower money.
And if your are good you are able to sit on the final table for big cash!!!

For fast money, spin and go but its Ultra Speed and only 500 Stake(pokerstars)

I'm tournament player, most of all I win money there, in cash games I often broke or loose crazy pots. Tournaments or sit and go is my choice, I play most MTT

The variety of replies should confirm to you that nobody else can answer this question for you! you have to try different types of game and stick with whichever you feel comfortable playing until you have the experience and want to branch out.
If you are uncomfortable playing then you're not concentrating on your game and other players will have the edge on you.

Personally, I avoid cash games because I am likely to be thinking about not losing my stack when it comes to the crunch.
In tourneys I tend to place a lot but rarely win. Single table SnGs don't suit me, multis are ok and big tourneys I'm comfy.
Ultimately, I want to play MTT so this is convenient :)

If you are consequently winning in CashGame and are going for maximum Profit than you should stick with this.

For myself tournaments are much more fun, it simply has more variety with the different Phases and differences in StackSize. And i feel like reading your oponent is a little bit better and kinf of easier. Cause your tries and mistake in the beginning do not risk your bankroll directly.

But you should definitely try HeadsUp Tournaments.(not the Sit&Gos).
Best poker experience ive ever had.

Starting out Cash Games or Tournaments

Which one would you recommend for players starting Cash Games or Tournaments? I am just confused as to what I should start learning first, which form of poker did you start out with? And Why?
