These little tips, if taken seriously can save you a lot of money. I burned through a lot of money that could have been saved by just a few simple guidelines. This information is out there already, I am sure, I would just like to do my part to maybe reach some lost soul on their journey towards poker enlightenment!
START SMALL!
Don't focus on how much your are winning. Focus on your game play, and improving it. Also, if you don't have a large bankroll this will help you do just that as you wont have the thought of losing money on your mind. If you do have a good size bankroll, this will protect it until your gameplay is up to par before jumping into limits that can break you.
STICK TO ONE GAME, ONE TYPE!
Don't try all types of games. Stick to one you feel you're best at. I feel cash games are the best to begin with, you have a lot of fundamentals that are to be learned there. Cash games also allow you sit back and see a lot of action unfold. Experience in this game is priceless.... Tournament play is a totally different animal, and in my opinion takes more advanced play to be successful at.

FIND A SYSTEM AND STICK TO IT!
Pick up a few good books, mash up what you read, start applying it to your play, and develop your style of play. Find the basics of what works for you, and stick to it. Add in more tricks once you have mastered your foundation.

STAY FOCUSED!
This is the most important!
Pay attention to what your doing, and what your opponent is doing. Always ask yourself why the opponent is doing what they are doing. Opponent check raise? Why?? If you were staying focused you could replay the hand in your mind and possibly find out why, and decide on your next move based on that information.
Take everything into consideration before you even get into a hand, your position, your cards, the people your playing with, the bets, the calls, everything! Think before you make any move!
It is also very important to stay focused because you will find yourself slipping often. Playing hands you shouldn't be (I feel lucky!), and getting yourself into situations that your gameplay isn't up to handling yet.... Once you realize this happening (hopefully you do before you bust out) step away, and take a breather. If you are not enjoying the game, take a breather! Tilt will break you! I am still guilty of losing focus, and it still costs me money every time! The more I find myself improving on this, the bigger and faster I see my bankroll growing!
PLAY IT SAFE FOR NOW!
You THINK they have you beat? FOLD. At this stage you want to be pretty sure you have it before you put your money into play. If your following the advice and paying attention, thinking before every move, and always asking yourself why the opponent made the move they did you will make out in the long run. So what you folded down the winning hand on a big pot!?! The other 10 good lay downs you made will more than make up for it.
THINK OF YOUR END GAME!
It is easy to get lost in the game and make plays based on the now. You MUST make long term decisions! Make moves based on what is profitable in the long run, don't take chances that wont pay out in the long run.

I think these few humble words are a good starting point for anyone looking to start this game seriously. It is the little I have picked up on my journey into NLH and just wanted to share. This barely scratches the surface of this game, but I am confident it will save someone some money, and heartache!

LEARN TO LAY DOWN A VERY GOOD HAND!
You must learn to lay down good hands when everything in you is telling you, you are beat. You must also learn to lay down marginal hands preflop depending on what happens. Me personally, if UTG and there is a raise, re-raise, and two callers I'm folding a lot of really nice preflop hands..... Getting into hands preflop, especially raised ones, that you shouldn't be in will bleed you dry, and get you into situations that are going to either break you, or severely dent your stack. Ill restate this just because it is so important. Always look at your position before you make a move!
