I've been playing in the freeroll tournaments for about a month now. I would love to get any advise or tips to improve my game in this tournament.

Only tip is don't play them. They are worthless and definitely not worth your time. I would recommend just waiting each week to play the cardschat freeroll.

Like any other MTT the details make a differnece in how you play. In a very large field with a small payout I play loose and hope to get lucky early so I don't waste too much time for nothing. If the field is smaller and/or the payout larger I think you can play more of a traditional skill based MTT strategy.

I play a lot of free roles on full tilt and i have come in the money several times. I find the best thing to do is wait till youve got a premium hand cos everyone goes mad at the start goin all in with nothing. While youre waiting watch who the weak players are and take their chips when you get a decent hand. I change my tactics a bit near the end cos the players are lot better and you cant get away with as much. To come in the money you should aim to at least double up by the first break. Good luck.

It's not a great deal of help, but patience and luck are really what these are all about, particularly the ones with 2700 players and a $100 prize pool.

freerolls like the one CardsChat runs every week are a much better bet, they typically have a much flatter prize structure and give you a better chance of stringing together the couple of bucks you need to start a real bankroll.

The other option is the country-specific freerolls that Full Tilt runs. I can only speak for the Australian ones, which had a lot of sitouts last time I played them, and usually only 1000 or so players. Not much of an edge in absolute terms, but it's a quantum leap above the standard games.

If you live in the US though, I imagine the US freeroll is probably not much different to the standard ones.

Good luck!

the thing that has got me in the money on fulltilt freerolls is playing loose at the beginning tripling or quadding up my stack.. then going for lunch or something and coming back a couple hours later and sit back down with about 2k chips and only about 50-100 people left.. and at this point you can slowly work your way back in chips slowly. ive cashed both times ive done this.. sounds kinda weird but seems to work for me. i cant being myself to sitting down in front of the computer for 5 hrs to play for a couple bucks. hope this can help!

Actually (more by chance than design), that's basically what happened in the couple I cashed in as well: there was an hour here or 45 minutes there where I was sitting out to go do something else. Each time I still had more than enough chips to work with when I got back.

It only really works in the middle stages though - once you reach the bubble, you can't really be sitting out.

Playing freerolls can be very frustrating to say the least.
Sit out the first 10 hands or so to get the all in freaks out of the way.
lol
Then, as you have read, play loose and build your stack with a prayer.
I feel you must triple your stack at the minimum by the first break.
After that play your best game cuz you will be playing the better crowd now. Good luck.

Free rolls are a real graind!!!! I usually don't start playing until after the first half hour. Then the better players are there and and you won't have to worry about laying down a KJ suited because some idiot has gone all in preflop with 4 9 unsuited. I play on UB quite a bit and this has worked very successfully for me.. I usually am always in for the 1000 dollar freeroll every week and have usually picked up 4 of 5 dollars on thop of that. Good luck. And don't play if your not rerady to put in at least 4 or 5 hours to accomplish this. Iat will, however teach you patience for playing in other MTT's.

Push in the first couple hands, you'll either go out or quadruple up or more, after that play a normal deep stack game, primarily looking for opportunities to break other big stacks who get married to things like TPTK or overpairs.

You got to have patience, but my advice would be to make a small deposit and play a lil real money!

I agree, you summarized it well. :)
I can add that there are some good freerolls not just "50$/thousands of players" kind.
Eg. 550 $ free in PS, 500 $ free in bodog are cool and there's good chance to get in top 10 with good playing and luck. :)

Disagree on not playing them. I earned my first dollars in those freerolls! To each their own - it's free experience in a spewy large MTT.

Freerolls are only one step up from a playchip game, but can be worthwhile for the practice...

The Cards Chat Freerolls are nice though. Usually have quality play!
